Somerset is a neighborhood in Bellevue, Washington. It contains Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, Eastgate Park, and Somerset Elementary School. [1] The hill called Somerset tops out just under 1,000 feet.

Somerset is a residential neighborhood located in Bellevue, Washington. The development of Somerset began in the early 1960s, encompassing 22 divisions with over 1,200 homes. The final division was completed in the late 1970s. Notably, Somerset is characterized by nationally recognized schools and the Somerset Recreation Club, which offers both recreational and competitive swim and tennis programs. [2]

The Somerset Community Association plays a pivotal role in representing the interests of the neighborhood. It facilitates various interest groups, such as a singles group for individuals aged 50 and above, a "Sunshine Committee" providing support to ailing residents, and a covenant review committee. Additionally, Somerset boasts an active landscape program, a Block Watch, and an Emergency Preparedness Program.

Significantly, a major portion of Somerset was annexed by the city of Bellevue in 1967. In subsequent years, neighboring areas like Hilltop, Horizon View, and Tamara Hills also underwent annexation by Bellevue in 2012, contributing to the expansion of the city. [3]

Schuyler Miwon Hong Bailar is an American swimmer, and the first openly transgender NCAA Division I swimmer. He is also the first publicly documented NCAA D1 transgender man to compete as a man in any sport. He was recruited by Harvard University and swam on the Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving team under coach Kevin Tyrrell; he was a member of the Harvard Class of 2019. Bailar was originally recruited in 2013 as a member of the women's team by Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving head coach Stephanie Morawski. After transitioning during a gap year, Bailar was also offered a spot on the men's team by coach Tyrrell, allowing Bailar the choice of either team. He elected to swim on the men's team.
