The Surinamese National Badminton Championships is a tournament organized by the Surinaamse Badminton Bond (SBB) the governing body for the sport of badminton in Suriname, to crown the best badminton players in Suriname.
The tournament started in 1966 and is held every year, except for the years 1971, 1986, 1989, 2002 and 2007 when no National championships were held. Since the year 2000 the National Championships of Suriname is divided between Category A for elite players and Category B for recreational players. Furthermore a National Junior Championships is also organized every year. There also used to be yearly Surinamese National Badminton Club Championships for club teams held since 1964.

Virgil Soeroredjo is a former Surinamese badminton player and now coach. He competed for Suriname at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also competed for Suriname at 3 Pan Am Games: the 2003 Pan American Games, the 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a young badminton player of the club SCVU in Suriname Virgil Soeroredjo won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Mitchel Wongsodikromo.

He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.

There used to be different levels for teams, premier A-Class called "Hoofdklasse", First division called "1e Klasse" and a Second division called "2e Klasse". For juniors there first used to be only an under-19 (U-19) age class, later changed in an under-21 (U-21) age class and under-17 (U-17) age class. From 2001 an under-15 (U-15) age class was added, but this changed in 2005 to an under-13 (U-13) age class.
