Tripura University is a central university, the main public government university of Tripura, India. [1]
Higher education in Tripura has its beginning with Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBBC), the first-degree college in the state, established in 1947, and affiliate to Calcutta University (CU). This was followed by Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in 1950, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College formerly known as Belonia College in 1964 and Ramthakur College in 1967, all affiliated to CU. No postgraduate college existed in Tripura, until in 1967 the University Grants Commission (UGC) sanctioned a post-graduate wing of CU, named Calcutta University Post graduate Centre (CUPGC), established in 1985. In 1987 Tripura University was established through the Tripura University Act, on the grounds of CUPGC. [2]
In 2007 Tripura University was elevated to a central university under the Tripura University Act, 2006. [3] Sudip Bandopadhya was appointed the first chancellor and Arunoday Saha as first vice-chancellor (VC). [4] Saha was followed by Anjan Kumar Ghosh, [5] followed by Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar who was appointed the third VC in July 2018. [6] In September 2019, Dharurkar resigned from his position under corruption allegations [7] and replaced with acting VC Sangram Sinha. [8] Sinha was replaced with acting VC Mahesh Kumar Singh in January 2020, [9] who filled up the position until August 2020, when Ganga Prasad Prasain was appointed VC. [10]

Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022, he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi. Again on 23 June 2022, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on INC ticket defeating his nearest rival of BJP by more than 3500 votes.
Maharaja Bir Bikram University is a state university located at Agartala, Tripura, India. It is the first, and as of 2023, the only state university in the state of Tripura. The university is named after Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman, the last ruling maharaja of the princely state of Tripura.

He became involved with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its different wings such as Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Vivekananda International Foundation in 2007. He won the Tripura Assembly Elections 2018 as the BJP candidate from Krishnapur constituency.
Ratan Lal Nath is an Indian politician from Tripura. He is the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Power and Election in the second Manik Saha Ministry. He joined BJP in 2017 after leaving National Congress.He became the MLA from Mohanpur Constituency by defeating CPI(M) Candidate Subash Chandra Debnath by a margin of 5,176 votes.

He represents the Town Bordowali Assembly constituency in the Tripura Legislative Assembly since 2022. He was also the former member of Rajya Sabha from Tripura from 2022 until he became Chief Minister in 2022 and the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura from 2020 to 2022. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party since 2016 and Indian National Congress before 2016.
