Juglans nigra, the eastern American black walnut, is a species of deciduous tree in the walnut family, Juglandaceae, native to North America. It grows mostly in riparian zones, from southern Ontario, west to southeast South Dakota, south to Georgia, northern Florida and southwest to central Texas. Wild trees in the upper Ottawa Valley may be an isolated native population or may have derived from planted trees.

Golden Memorial State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Mississippi located off Mississippi Highway 492 approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Walnut Grove.

Mississippi Highway 15 is a state highway in Mississippi. At almost 324 miles (521 km), it is the longest highway in the Mississippi Highway System. MS 15 is divided into two sections due to a large gap between Stone County and Perry County. The southern section begins at Interstate 10 (I-10) and I-110 in Biloxi and ends at a junction with MS 26 near Wiggins, and the northern section begins at a junction with U.S. Route 98 near Beaumont and ends as a continuation as SR 125 near Walnut. Michael Montgomery Haddix is a former professional American football running back for eight seasons in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers. The Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, formerly the Walnut Grove Youth Correctional Facility (WGYCF), is a state prison in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. It was formerly operated as a for-profit state-owned prison from 1996 to 2016. Constructed beginning in 1990, it was expanded in 2001 and later, holding male youth offenders. It had an eventual capacity of 1,469 prisoners, making it the largest juvenile facility in the country. Contracts for the facility's operations and services were among those investigated by the FBI in its lengthy investigation of state corruption known as Operation Mississippi Hustle.

Operation Mississippi Hustle was a federal investigation initiated in 2014 by the United States Attorney and prosecuted in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. It examined the relationship between officials of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and various for-profit prison contractors and subcontractors, who have provided services to the five private prisons in the state. One, Walnut Grove, closed in September 2016 but has since reopened.
