The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprising private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States. Outside the Ivy League, it is among the most selective groups of higher education institutions in NCAA Division I, and has a very high student-athlete graduation rate for both the NCAA graduation success rate and the federal graduation rate.

Dick Harlow

Richard Cresson Harlow was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Pennsylvania State University (1915–1917), Colgate University (1922–1925), Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College (1926–1934), and Harvard University, compiling a career college football record of 149–69–17. Harlow pioneered modern defensive schemes. Often fielding undersized teams, he pioneered coordinated stunts to get around or between blockers rather than trying to overpower them. His offenses were based on deception and timing rather than power, utilizing shifts, reverses, and lateral passes. Harlow was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1954.

Frank "Buck" ONeill American football player and coach

Frank J. "Buck" O'Neill was an American football player and coach. He served as head football coach at Colgate University, Williams College (1903), Syracuse University, and Columbia University (1920–1922), compiling a career college football coaching record of 87–45–9. O’Neill was a two-sport athlete at Williams College where he played football and ran track. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1951.

The 1932 Colgate Red Raiders football team represented Colgate University in during the 1932 college football season. Fourth-year head coach Andrew Kerr led Colgate to a perfect record, and the team did not allow an opponent to score throughout the entire season. Nevertheless, Colgate did not receive an expected invitation to the Rose Bowl, and as such, the team was called "undefeated, untied, unscored upon, and uninvited". The 1932 Colgate eleven is one of only three college football teams since 1920 to have finished a perfect season without being scored upon. The new maroon uniforms adopted by this team inspired the nickname for the school's athletics program: the "Red Raiders". Parke H. Davis named Colgate a co-national champion team alongside Michigan and USC.

The Colgate–Syracuse football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Colgate Raiders and Syracuse Orange. The two schools are located 38 miles apart from each other in Central New York. The two teams have met 67 times, and despite Colgate not recording a victory since 1950, the series is tied 31–31–5. The game has been infrequently played since the NCAA's divisional split in 1978, which placed Colgate in Division I-AA and Syracuse in Division I-A.

The Colgate–Cornell football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Colgate Raiders and the Cornell Big Red. The two teams have met 101 times since their first meeting in 1896, and Colgate–Cornell was the 17th most-played college football rivalry as of 2013. Cornell has played Colgate in football more times than any other opponent except Ivy League rivals Penn and Columbia. Cornell leads the series 50–49–3, but Colgate has won 29 of 36 meetings since 1980.
