The 1916 Mississippi Normal Normalites football team was an American football team that represented Mississippi Normal College (now known as the University of Southern Mississippi) as an independent during the 1916 college football season. In their third year under head coach A. B. Dille, the team compiled an 0–3 record. [1] Official records indicate a further five games were played by Normal, but the scores from them are unknown. [1]

The 1916 Alabama Crimson Tide football team represented the University of Alabama in the 1916 college football season. It was the Crimson Tide's 24th overall and 21st season as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). The team was led by head coach Thomas Kelley, in his second year, and played their home games at University Field in Tuscaloosa and at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. They finished the season with a record of six wins and three losses.

Slay was also the head basketball coach at Mississippi Normal in 1912–13 and from 1918 to 1920, tallying a mark of 9–7, and the school's head baseball coach from 1914 to 1916 and in 1919, tallying a mark 4–5.
