The president of Peru, officially called the President of the Republic of Peru, is the head of state and head of government of Peru. The president is the head of the executive branch and is the Supreme Head of the Armed Forces and National Police of Peru. The office of president corresponds to the highest magistracy in the country, making the president the highest-ranking public official in Peru.
The Centre Front, was a Peruvian political coalition formed by the parties Acción Popular (AP), Somos Perú (PDSP) and Coordinadora Nacional de Independientes (CNI) for the 2006 national election. Its leader and presidential candidate was the late Peruvian former president Valentín Paniagua Corazao but following his sudden death on October 16, 2006 the coalition was headed by President of the Acción Popular party, Víctor Andrés García Belaúnde. The alliance was unsuccessful in the presidential race, placing 5th. At the legislative elections held on 9 April 2006, the party won 7.1% of the popular vote and only 5 out of 120 seats in the Congress of the Republic.
David Waisman Rjavinsthi is a Peruvian politician who served as the Second Vice President of Peru from 2001 to 2006. He also served as Congressman from 2000 to 2011.
The Republic of Peru has two vice presidents, the First Vice President and the Second Vice President, who are elected along with the President in democratic elections. Their only constitutional mission is to replace the President in case of death, permanent or temporary incapacity, resignation, being abroad without the permission of Congress, failure to return from abroad at fixed time, and/or dismissal or removal from office as allowed by the Constitution. They cannot be appointed outside of general elections.
Manuel Salazar y Baquíjano, Count of Vistaflorida was a Peruvian politician who briefly served as the Interim President of Peru from June to August 1827.
Zoila Lourdes Carmen Sandra Mendoza del Solar is a Peruvian businesswoman and politician with the Peruvian Aprista Party. She is the first woman in Peru's history to become a Vice President of Peru, running as the Second Running mate of Alan García in the 2006 election.
Jorge Alfonso Alejandro Del Castillo Gálvez is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. In his career, he has served in the now abolished Peruvian Chamber of Deputies between 1990 and 1992, in the unicameral Congress of the Republic for six non-consecutive terms, between 1995 and 2011 and again from 2016 to 2019, five of which are consecutive terms, and as Mayor of Lima and the District of Barranco during the 1980s.
Santiago Fujimori Inomoto is a Peruvian lawyer, politician and a former congressman, representing Lima for the 2006–2011 term. Fujimori is of Japanese descent. He is the younger brother of former President Alberto Fujimori who was the President of Peru from 1990 until his downfall in 2000 and the uncle of Keiko Fujimori and Kenji Fujimori. During his brother's presidency, he served as an advisor.
Alejandro Aurelio Aguinaga Recuenco is a Peruvian doctor and Fujimorist politician. He is a Congressman, representing the Lambayeque Region, as he was before between 2006 and 2016. He was also the Health Minister during the administration of Alberto Fujimori from 1999 to 2000.
Ángel Javier Velásquez Quesquén is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. A prominent member of the Peruvian Aprista Party, he has served in Congress between 2001 and 2019, previously serving from 1995 to 2000. In Alan García's second presidency, Velásquez was sworn as the third Prime Minister of Peru of the administration, succeeding Yehude Simon in 2009. He resigned his post in 2010 with the intention to run for the Peruvian Aprista Party presidential nomination later that year. Although not selected as the nominee, he was part of the presidential ticket of Mercedes Aráoz in which he was the candidate for First Vice President until her withdrawal from the election in January 2011. In 2016, he was reelected for a fifth term in Congress, representing the Lambayeque Region under the Popular Alliance which consisted of the APRA and PPC.
Raúl Eduardo Castro Stagnaro is a Peruvian lawyer and politician who is a former Congressman, representing Lima elected in the 2006 election under the National Unity list for the 2006–2011 term. In the 2016 election, Castro Stagnaro tried to run for Congress again in the Lima constituency, under the Popular Alliance under number 2 of the list, which grouped Alan García’s APRA, and the Christian People’s Party, but he was not elected. In party level, he served as President of the Christian People's Party from 2011 and 2016. He was also it's party Secretary General from 2006 and 2011 and as Vice President of the Party from 1999 to 2006.
José León Luna Gálvez is a Peruvian economist and politician originally from the National Solidarity party who later founded the Podemos Perú and was a Congressman representing Lima between 2000 and 2016. He was the Third Vice President of the Congress between 2012 and 2014.
Susana Gladis Vilca Achata is a Peruvian politician and was a Congresswoman representing Puno for the 2006–2011 term. Vilca belonged to the Union for Peru party.
Marisol Espinoza Cruz is a Peruvian politician who was the First Vice President of Peru during the Humala administration from 2011–2016. She has been a Congresswoman representing Piura between 2006 and 2019. Espinoza belongs to the Peruvian Nationalist Party.
Mariano Herencia Zevallos was a Peruvian Army colonel and politician who briefly served as Interim President of Peru in 1872, following the murder of President José Balta.
Mercedes Rosalba Aráoz Fernández is a Peruvian economist, professor, and politician who served as Second Vice President of Peru from 2016 to 2020. At the beginning of her political career, she served as Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism from 2006 to July 2009, after which she was appointed briefly as Minister of Production, and finally as Minister of Economy and Finance, all portfolios under the second presidency of Alan García.
