Biyaya ng Lupa of LVN Pictures was the most nominated film of the year with 12 nominations. However, it only manages to win 2 awards including the most coveted FAMAS Award for Best Picture. Kamandag of Sampaguita Pictures won the most awards (7 wins), including best actor (Van de Leon), Best director (Jose De Villa) [1] and Best Supporting Actress (Marlene Dauden).

Biyaya ng Lupa was also screened and nominated for Golden Bear at the 10th Berlin International Film Festival

LVN Pictures, Inc. was a Filipino film studio that was considered one of the biggest in the history of Philippine cinema and its foremost establishment in motion picture post-production until 2005. In its heyday of motion picture production, LVN Pictures has been compared to that of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) of Hollywood because it had, under contract, the biggest stars and film craftsmen of the period. Before its closure in 2005, LVN Pictures was known as one of the oldest living film studios in the country.

The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards, or simply the FAMAS Awards, are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema for a calendar year. Members of the academy including avid movie viewers, fans or enthusiasts cast their votes on who should win the statuettes in the different categories they were nominated. Established in 1952, it is the oldest existing film industry award-giving body in the Philippines and one of the oldest in Asia. The FAMAS Award, from 1952 to 1982, was the highest Filipino film award a filmmaker or artisan could receive in the local movie industry.

Marlene Daudén is considered one of the greatest Filipina drama actresses of all time. She achieved her legendary status as a film thespian during her film career that spanned from the 1950s up to the 1970s. During the height of her fame, she was one of the most bankable stars of Sampaguita Pictures, which used to be one of the leading Philippine movie studios of the era.

<i>Blessings of the Land</i> 1959 film

Blessings of the Land is a 1959 Filipino drama film directed by Manuel Silos. It was entered into the 10th Berlin International Film Festival. The film won Best Picture and Best Story from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences. In 1960, it was shown at the Asian Film Festival held in Tokyo. The story was written by Celso Al. Carunungan, while the screenplay was written by Carunungan together with Pablo Naval. The movie was produced by LVN Pictures.

Celso Al. Carunungan is a Filipino writer, novelist, and scriptwriter in English and Filipino languages. In 1959, he won the Best Story prize from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) for writing the story and screenplay for the Tagalog-language film Biyaya ng Lupa Among his works are Like a Big Brave Man, a novel published in New York in 1960 then in Manila in 1963; Return to Gomora and Other Stories (1963); Panorama of World Literature for Filipinos: Fourth Year (1966); Satanas sa Lupa (1971), a Tagalog novel; and To Die a Thousand Deaths: A Novel on the Life and Times of Lorenzo Ruiz. He was a production consultant for the 1982 American movie The Year of Living Dangerously.

Manuel Silos was an award-winning Filipino film-maker from the 1920s through the 1950s. He began his career by making silent movies together with his brothers. As a bodabil (vaudeville) actor and comedian, Silos used the stage and screen name Santo Tulia. He appeared in romantic-comedy films such as Victory Joe in 1946, Puppy Love in 1956, and Tuloy and Ligaya in 1958. He became known for his FAMAS-awarded film Biyaya ng Lupa. In 1979, Silos received the Natatanging Gawad Urian. In 1985, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP).

Ernani Joson Cuenco was a Filipino composer, film scorer, musical director, music teacher and Philippine National Artist for Music. He wrote an outstanding and memorable body of works that resonate with the Filipino sense of musicality and which embody an ingenious voice that raises the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary Filipino music. Cuenco played with the Filipino Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra from 1960 to 1968, and the Manila Chamber Soloists from 1966 to 1970. He completed a music degree in piano and cello from the University of Santo Tomas where he also taught for decades until his death in 1988.

The 6th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held on March 15, 1958, at Fiesta Pavilion of the historical Manila Hotel. This is for the Outstanding Achievements in films for the year 1957.

The 22nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1975. This ceremony gave recognition to the movies that was made for the year 1974.
