The 21st Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1973 for the Outstanding Achievements for the year 1972.

Kill the Pushers of JE Productions won the most coveted FAMAS Award for Best Picture award. It was also the first time that the academy gave two best actress award to Vilma Santos for Dama de Noche and Boots Anson Roa for Tatay na si Erap. The FAMAS was rocked by a terrible scandal, because a tie was unheard of, the public dissented the vote. Therefore, for the next years, the FAMAS invited film critics to be members of its nominating and awarding committee. [1]

Celso Advento Castillo was a Filipino film director and screenwriter.

The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of prize-winning writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema for a calendar year. Members of the academy including avid movie viewers, fans or enthusiasts will cast their votes on who should win the statuettes on different categories they were nominated. Established in 1952, it the oldest existing film industry award-giving body in the Philippines and one of the oldest in Asia. The FAMAS Awards, from 1952 to 1982, was the highest Filipino film award a filmmaker or artisan could receive in the local movie industry.

The Maria Clara Awards is the first formal film industry award-giving body of the Philippines. It was established in 1950 by a group of writers from the Manila Times Publishing, Co., which included National Artist Dr. Alejandro Roces, regarded as the Father of the Maria Clara Awards. It was the initial answer of the Philippines to Hollywood's Academy Awards, an institution for recognizing talents in the Filipino movie industry.

The 1st Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held on July 16, 1953, in Hotel Riviera Mansion, Dewey Boulevard. Sawa sa Lumang Simboryo produced by Manuel Vistan Jr. is the first recipient of FAMAS Award for Best Picture.

The 2nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1954 in Life Theater, Quezon Boulevard, Quiapo, Manila. Huk Sa Bagong Pamumuhay, produced by Narcisa de Leon and distributed by LVN Pictures, is the recipient of FAMAS Award for Best Picture.

The 3rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1955 at Fiesta Pavilion in Manila Hotel.

The 22nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1974 at the Manila Hilton Hotel. This ceremony will give recognition to the movies that was made for the year 1973.

The 24th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1977. This was for the outstanding achievements in films in 1976.

The 18thFilipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1970 for the Outstanding Achievements for the year 1969.

The 19th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1971 for the Outstanding Achievements for the year 1970.
