The following is a list of events relating to television in Ireland from 1963.
RTÉ News and Current Affairs, also known simply as RTÉ News, is the national news service provided by Irish public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Its services include local, national, European and international news, investigative journalism and current affairs programming for RTÉ television, radio, online, podcasts, on-demand and for independent Irish language public broadcaster TG4. It is the largest and most popular news source in Ireland – with 77% of the Irish public regarding it as their main source of both Irish and international news. It broadcasts in English, Irish and Irish Sign Language. The organisation is also a source of commentary on current affairs. The division is based at the RTÉ Television Centre in Donnybrook, Dublin; however, the station also operates regional bureaux across Ireland and the world.
John Bowman is an Irish historian and a long-standing broadcaster and presenter of current affairs and political programmes with RTÉ. He chaired the audience-participation political programme Questions and Answers on RTÉ One for 21 years. He is the father of comedian and journalist Abie Philbin Bowman and the broadcaster and journalist Jonathan Philbin Bowman.
RTÉ News: Six One is RTÉ's evening news programme broadcast on the Irish television channel RTÉ One and simulcast on the RTÉ News channel at 6:01pm. The bulletin airs until 7pm on Monday to Friday and until 6:30pm on Saturday and Sunday, when it is styled as RTÉ News and Sport. Six One airs after Nuacht RTÉ, which airs at 5:40pm, and The Angelus at 6pm. It is co-presented by Sharon Tobin and David McCullagh, the former co-presenter of current affairs programme Prime Time.
Bryan David Dobson is an Irish journalist, now retired, a newscaster and presenter who worked for RTÉ. He presented the RTÉ News at One on RTÉ Radio One, RTÉ News: Six One,RTÉ News: Nine O'Clock, most recently Morning Ireland, and occasionally RTÉ News: One O'Clock.
Broadsheet was a Telefís Éireann television current affairs programme presented by John O'Donoghue, Brian Cleeve, and Brian Farrell and broadcast in Ireland live on weekday evenings from 1962 to 1963.
The Jacob's Awards were instituted in December 1962 as the first Irish television awards. Later, they were expanded to include radio. The awards were named after their sponsor, W. & R. Jacob & Co. Ltd., a biscuit manufacturer, and recipients were selected by Ireland's national newspaper television and radio critics. Jacob's Award winners were chosen annually until 1993, when the final awards presentation took place.
Richard Crowley, is an Irish journalist and broadcaster. He was formerly Middle East Correspondent for RTÉ News, and co-presenter of the current affairs programme Prime Time on RTÉ television. Prior to leaving RTÉ in 2017, he had presented the News at One on RTÉ Radio One and co-presented the radio programme This Week, with Colm Ó Mongáin, on Sundays.
David McCullagh is an Irish journalist, author and presenter with RTÉ, Ireland's national radio and television station, where he has presented the Six One News since August 2020. He previously presented current affairs television programme Prime Time from 2013 to 2020, and was Political Correspondent with RTÉ News.
