The 5th Gujarat Legislative Assembly election was held in 1975. [1] [2] Indian National Congress (INC) won 75 seats out of 168 seats. While, NCO won 56 seats, BJS won 18 seats and KLP won 12 seats. INC underperformed in this election and lost 65 seats.
A total of 834 men and 14 women contested the election. Total 178 men and 3 women won in the elections. The number of polling stations was 18,719 and the number of electors per polling station was 747.

The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee(GPCC) is the state unit of the Indian National Congress in Gujarat. It is responsible for organizing and coordinating the party's activities and campaigns within the state, as well as selecting candidates for local, state, and national elections. Shaktisinh Gohil is the president of the Committee. It has 1,862 seats in various urban and rural local bodies in Gujarat. Its office is located at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Ahmedabad. It is the single major opposition party against the Bharatiya Janata Party in Gujarat. It has participated in every Gujarat Legislative Assembly election since 1962, the first election in the independent state.
The Indian state of Gujarat was created out of the 17 northern districts of former State of Bombay. The Mahagujarat movement was instrumental in the formation of a separate state, Gujarat. Politics in Gujarat has mostly been dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party with the Indian National Congress being the main opposition since the 1990s. The state has been governed by the BJP since 1998, and is considered a stronghold of the party. In 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election the Aam Aadmi Party emerge as third party.

He is the incumbent MLA representing Patsoi Assembly Constituency in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. He represented the Patsoi assembly constituency during 2007–2012 in the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

This was the best ever electoral performance of INC in Gujarat and their record of 149 seats was surpassed only by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2022 elections. 1985 election remains the most recent election in Gujarat in which Indian National Congress won a majority in Gujarat Assembly as its support and vote bank was heavily declined by the rise of BJP

The 3rd Gujarat Legislative Assembly election was held in 1967. It was the second election held after formation of Gujarat. Indian National Congress (INC) won 93 seats out of 168 seats. While, Swatantra Party (SWA) won 66 seats. INC performed badly in this election and lost 20 seats, and SWA improve performance and won 40 more seats. Total 599 men and 14 women contested in the election. Total 160 men and 8 women won in the elections. Number of polling stations were 11,554 and number of electors per polling stations were 926.

Indian National Congress won 113 seats out of 154 seats. While, Swatantra Party won 26 seats and Praja Socialist Party won seven seats.
