The 1976 French Open was a tennis tournament that took place on the outdoor clay courts at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. The tournament ran from 31 May until 14 June. It was the 80th staging of the French Open, and the second Grand Slam tennis event of 1976.
Adriano Panatta defeated Harold Solomon in the final, 6–1, 6–4, 4–6, 7–6(7–3) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1976 French Open. Panatta became the first man in the Open Era to win the French Open after saving a match point en route, doing so against Pavel Huťka in the first round.
Björn Borg defeated Manuel Orantes in the final, 2–6, 6–7(4–7), 6–0, 6–1, 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1974 French Open. It was the first of his eventual six French Open titles.
