The Stadium Merdeka is a stadium based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is known as the site of the formal declaration of independence of the Federation of Malaya on 31 August 1957. The stadium is also the site of the proclamation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963.

The qualification process for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup football competition began in March 2003. Out of the 45 AFC members, only Cambodia and the Philippines failed to enter for the tournament. Both China, the hosts and Japan, the reigning champions automatically qualified for the finals. The 2022 Malaysia M5 League is the inaugural season of the League competition since its establishment in 2019. It is in the fifth tier of the Malaysia football league system. The league has several leagues registered under it.
