The 1987 United States rugby union tour of Wales was a series of six matches played by the United States national rugby union team in Wales in October and November 1987. The United States team won two of their six matches, and lost the other four, including the international match against the Wales national rugby union team. The "Eagles" lost also a test against Canada, played returning home. 7

Pontypool Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in the town of Pontypool, which plays in the Super Rygbi Cymru league. Since the regionalisation of Welsh rugby in 2003, Pontypool RFC is now a feeder club to the Dragons regional team. Pontypool play their home matches at Pontypool Park. Their traditional home kit is a red, white and black-hooped shirt and socks with white shorts, although they did gradually shift to wearing black shorts post-2003.

The United States team won two of the six matches, and lost the other four, including the international match against the England national rugby union team in front 15,000 at Twickenham Stadium. England did not award full international caps for this match and the team was described as "An England XV" rather than simply "England".

The tour was essentially a visit to Ireland, with a single match against Leicester being played in England. Romania won four of their six matches, lost one and drew the other. The draw came in the international match against Ireland, which the home team did not consider a full international match. This was rated a major result for Romania, who were hopeful at the time of joining the Five Nations Championship, and the Rothmans Rugby Yearbook's review of the tour stated that "any lingering doubts about the ability of the Romanians to pose a challenge to the home countries were dispelled".
