  16 February – an agreement was signed in Baghdad by Iraq, Jordan, Egypt and Yemen to form the Arab Cooperation Council ^[1]
• 1 April – Iraqi parliamentary election were held, as a result the Ba'ath Party won 207 of the 250 seats. ^[2]
• 8 August –the Victory Arch monument is opened to the public in honor of the Iraqi soldiers who fell during the Iran–Iraq War, which concluded a year earlier. ^[3]
