In 1992 Tipperary competed in the National Hurling League and the Munster Championship. It was Babs Keating's sixth year in charge of the team with Colm Bonnar named as team captain. The team were sponsored by National Irish Bank which appeared on the jerseys. In the Munster championship, Tipperary lost in the semi-final to Cork by three points and exited the championship after one match.

The draw for the 2015 fixtures took place on 9 October 2014 live on RTÉ2. The championship began on 3 May 2015 and ended on 6 September 2015.

The 2020 fixtures were announced in October 2019. Games were initially scheduled to begin on 9 May 2020. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Gaelic games, the competition was delayed before beginning on 24 October 2020 and ending on 13 December 2020.

The Waterford county hurling team represents Waterford in hurling and is governed by Waterford GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The 2008 season was Liam Sheedy's first season in charge of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He was appointed for a one-year term at a meeting of the county board on 25 September 2007. Paul Ormond was the team captain for the year but Eoin Kelly was the playing captain when Ormond wasn't named in the team.
