Arantxa Sánchez Vicario defeated Mary Pierce in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1994 French Open. It was her second French Open title and second major singles title overall. Pierce reached the final with the loss of only 10 games.

Hana Mandlíková defeated the two-time defending champion Martina Navratilova in the final, 7–6(7–3), 1–6, 7–6(7–2) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1985 US Open. It was her third major singles title.

Steffi Graf defeated Gabriela Sabatini in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1988 US Open. It was her first US Open title and fifth major title overall. With the win, she became the third woman to complete the Grand Slam, after Maureen Connolly and Margaret Court. Moreover, it was the fourth component of her Golden Slam, which remains the only calendar Golden Slam achieved in pedestrian tennis, and Graf completed the career Grand Slam with the win. Two-time defending champion Martina Navratilova defeated Chris Evert Lloyd in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1984 Wimbledon Championships. It was her fifth Wimbledon singles title and tenth major singles title overall.

Monica Seles defeated Martina Navratilova in the final, 7–6(7–1), 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1991 US Open. It was her third major title of the year. With the win, Seles recaptured the world No. 1 ranking from Steffi Graf, and would hold it until her 1993 stabbing.

Katrina Adams and Manon Bollegraf were the defending champions but they competed with different partners that year, Adams with Zina Garrison-Jackson and Bollegraf with Martina Navratilova.
