The 1994 African Badminton Championships were the continental badminton championships to crown the best players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the University of Port Elizabeth in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, from 8 to 17 July 1994. [1]
In the team event, South Africa defeated Nigeria while Mauritius defeated Namibia in the semi-finals. In the final, Mauritius lead 2–0 before going down 3–2 to South Africa. South Africa, Nigeria and Mauritius also dominated the individual events. [2] [3]

The Angola national football team represents Angola in men's international football and is controlled by the Angolan Football Federation. Nicknamed Palancas Negras, the team is a member of both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The 1996 African Cup of Nations was the 20th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa (CAF). It was hosted by South Africa, who replaced original hosts Kenya. The field expanded for the first time to 16 teams, split into four groups of four; the top two teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinals. However, Nigeria withdrew from the tournament at the final moment under pressure from then-dictator Sani Abacha, reducing the field to 15. South Africa won its first championship, beating Tunisia in the final 2–0.
The Madagascar national football team, nicknamed Barea after the island's zebu, is the national team of Madagascar and is controlled by the Malagasy Football Federation. It has never qualified for the finals of the World Cup. It took part in its first Africa Cup of Nations in 2019. Among its biggest wins was a 1–0 home victory over Egypt in the qualification rounds of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations until being surpassed by a recent 2–0 win over Nigeria in the group stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Reflecting the official name of the country at the time, the team was known as the Malagasy Republic national football team between 1958 and 1975.
The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Women's Team Championships, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams. First held in 1956–1957 and contested at three year intervals, it has been contested every two years since 1984 when its scheduled times and venues were merged with those of Thomas Cup, the world men's team championship. In 2007, the Badminton World Federation decided to have Thomas and Uber Cup finals separated again but the proposal was ultimately abandoned. The Uber Cup is named after a former British women's badminton player, Betty Uber, who in 1950 had the idea of hosting a women's event similar to the men's. She also made the draw for the 1956–1957 inaugural tournament, which took place at Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire, England.
The 15th African Championships in Athletics were held in Mauritius between August 9 and August 13, 2006. The event was staged at Stade Germain Comarmond in Bambous, Rivière Noire District. This was the second time when the African Championships in Athletics were hosted in Mauritius, the first was in 1992.
Badminton has been part of the African Games since 2003 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Nigeria participated at the 2015 All-Africa Games held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. It participated with 573 athletes in 21 sports. Nigeria finished 2nd in the 2015 All-Africa Games medal table.
Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan is a Nigerian badminton player. She has shown her talent at a young age, by winning two gold medals at the 2014 African Youth Games. In 2019, she won the women's singles and doubles title at the African Championships. She competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, by achieving the best women's singles ranking on the African continent in the Race to Tokyo rankings.
The 2018 All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships is a continental stage tournament of Thomas and Uber Cups, and also to crown the best men's and women's badminton team in Africa. This tournament will be held in Algiers, Algeria between 12 and 15 February 2018.
The 2019 African Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships to crown the best players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Centre in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, from 22–28 April.
The Algeria national badminton team represents Algeria in international badminton team competitions. The team made their first-ever appearance at the Thomas Cup in 2018. The Algerian team have never qualified for the Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup.
The Zambia national badminton team represents Zambia in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Zambia Badminton Association.
The Zimbabwe national badminton team represents Zimbabwe in international team competitions and is controlled by the Zimbabwe Badminton Association, the governing body for Zimbabwean badminton. It is affiliated with the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA).
The Benin national badminton team represents Benin in international team competitions. The team is controlled by the Badminton Federation of Benin. The Beninese mixed team competed in the 2019 African Badminton Championships.
The Tunisia national badminton team represents Tunisia in international team competitions. The Tunisian national team is managed by the Tunisian Badminton Federation. The men's team debuted in the African Badminton Championships in 2018.
The 1992 African Badminton Championships was a continental badminton tournament organized by the Badminton Confederation of Africa to crown the best badminton players in Africa. This championships were held in Port Louis, Mauritius from 10 to 26 April. This tournament also served as the African qualifiers for the 1992 Summer Olympics.
The 2024 All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships was a continental stage tournament to crown the best men's and women's badminton team in Africa. The tournament also served as the African qualifiers for the 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup to be held in Chengdu, China. This tournament was held in Cairo, Egypt between 12 and 15 February 2024.
The mixed team badminton event at the 2011 All-Africa Games was held from 6 to 8 September at the Escola Josina Machel Hall in Maputo. 13 teams competed in this event. Egypt withdrew from the competition and only participated in the individual events.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in October 1998 at Casablanca, Morocco.
