Qualification format

The Qualifying Round was held from 14 July to 1 August 1993. There were four groups, one group of five teams and three groups of six teams. The first and second placed team from each group qualified for 1994 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. One team of each group hosted the mini-tournament.

The qualification competition for the 1995 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship consisted in two different qualification rounds: the Qualifying Round and the Challenge Round. Russia, Turkey and Lithuania, as third, fourth and fifth place in the previous tournament, received a bye to the Challenge Round. Greece, as title holder, Spain, as runner-up, and Portugal, as the host, qualified directly for the tournament.

The 2007 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship was the 21st edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. The cities of Ierapetra, Rethymno and Heraklion, in Greece, hosted the tournament. Serbia won the trophy for the first time since the dissolution of Serbia and Montenegro. Slovenia and Portugal were relegated to Division B.

The 2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women was the 22nd edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women. 16 teams featured the competition, held in Greece from August 12–22. Spain was the defending champion.

The 2011 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women was the 23rd edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women. 16 teams participated in the competition, held in Cagliari, Italy, from 11 to 21 August 2011.

EuroBasket 2015 was the 39th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe. It was co-hosted by Croatia, France, Germany, and Latvia, making it the first EuroBasket held in more than one country. It started on 5 September and ended on 20 September 2015.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. The tournament was hosted in China and was rescheduled from 2018 to 2019, becoming the first since 1967 that did not occur in the same year as the FIFA World Cup. The tournament expanded from 24 to 32 teams.

The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification began in earnest at the 2011 Caribbean Championships, a qualifier to the 2012 Centrobasket, which was in itself a qualifier to the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.
