The 1996 ITC Diepholz round was the sixth round of the 1996 International Touring Car Championship season. It took place on 7 July at the Diepholz Airfield Circuit.
The Diepholz Airfield Circuit was an auto racing circuit in the south-west of the town of Diepholz, Germany. It was a temporary circuit on a military airfield, which is still in use by the German military today.
Bernd Schneider won both races, driving a Mercedes C-Class.

Mercedes-Benz W202 is a compact executive car which was produced by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz in 1993–2000, under the C-Class model names. In May 1993, the first generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class was introduced as a replacement for the 190. The C-Class sedan was the company's entry-level model up until 1997, when Mercedes-Benz launched the smaller A-Class. Styling themes were carried over from the previous W201 series, but the new series had a smoother and rounder design than the previous generation of the compact Mercedes-Benz.

He scored 1 championship point, and holds the record for the most failed attempts to qualify. He has subsequently raced successfully in Touring Cars, winning the BTCC in 1994, the ETCC in 2003 the WTCC in 2009 and the WTCR in 2018.

It was race 9 of 12 in both the 1968 World Championship of Drivers and the 1968 International Cup for Formula One Manufacturers. The 107% rule is a sporting regulation affecting Formula One racing qualifying sessions. During the first phase of qualifying, any driver who fails to set a lap within 107 percent of the fastest time in the first qualifying session will not be allowed to start the race without permission from the race stewards. For example, if the fastest Q1 lap time was 60 seconds, each driver must complete at least one lap within 64.2 seconds to guarantee a start. The 107% rule was introduced for the 1996 season and remained in force until 2002. It was reintroduced for the 2011 season with minor modifications due to the knock-out qualifying format.
