The 1997 Singer Akai Cup was held in Sharjah, UAE, between April 3-11, 1997. Three national teams took part: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
The 1997 Singer Akai Cup started with a double round-robin tournament where each team played the other twice. The two leading teams qualified for the final. Sri Lanka won the tournament and US$40,000. Runners-up Pakistan won US$25,000 and Zimbabwe US$10,000. [1]
The beneficiaries of the tournament were Waqar Younis and Saeed Ahmed who each received US$35,000, and Aslam Khokhar, Israr Ali and Zulfiqar Ahmed (all Pakistan) who each received US$10,000. [2]

The Pakistani cricket team toured South Africa in the 1994–95 season. On the tour they played two first-class tour matches, three one-day matches and a single Test match. They also competed in a quadrangular tournament against New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka, entitled the Mandela Trophy. They lost the best-of-three final series 2–0 to South Africa, having topped the table in the group stage. They lost the only Test by 324 runs.
The Sri Lankan cricket team toured South Africa during the 1997–98 season, playing two Tests from 19 to 30 March 1998. Prior to the series, Sri Lanka had toured South Africa in the 1994–95 season, playing only One Day Internationals in the Mandela Trophy. This was therefore the first Test series between the two in South Africa.
The Pakistani cricket team toured England in the 1992 English cricket season, the first tour since the acrimonious visit by England to Pakistan in 1987/88, which was highlighted by the Mike Gatting/Shakoor Rana dispute. Five Test matches and five One Day Internationals were scheduled, running from May to August.
Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka competed in the second Asian Test Championship between August 2001 and March 2002. India pulled out of the tournament due to political tensions with Pakistan.

Play in Group A of the 2011 Cricket World Cup took place from 20 February to 20 March 2011. The group consisted of hosts Sri Lanka, and along with them, Pakistan, Canada, Kenya, New Zealand, Australia and Zimbabwe. This phase of the tournament was played as a full round-robin amongst all seven teams, with the top four teams advancing to the quarter-finals
The Pakistan national cricket team toured Sri Lanka from 16 to 30 April 1997. The tour included two Tests between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Pakistan also played a first-class against Sri Lanka Board XI. The Test series ended in a draw with both matches drawn.

The Singer World Series was a quadrangular ODI cricket tournament held in Sri Lanka from 26 August to 7 September 1996. It featured the national cricket teams of Zimbabwe, Australia, India and the hosts, Sri Lanka. The competition was won by Sri Lanka, which defeated Australia in the final.

Deshabandu Pinnaduwage Aravinda de Silva is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain, who has also played in English county cricket. De Silva was a key member of the Sri Lankan team that won 1996 Cricket World Cup, where he scored a match winning century in the final, that brought Sri Lanka from underdog status to present-day form. He has held various posts in Sri Lankan Cricket after his retirement in 2003.

It featured the national cricket teams of New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the hosts India. The tournament was won by Sri Lanka, which defeated Pakistan in the best-of-three finals. Sri Lanka became the Champion.
The New Zealand national cricket team toured Pakistan during the 1996–97 cricket season. The tour consisted of a first-class game against an invitational Pakistani Cricket board XI, followed by two Test matches and three One Day International games. The hosts and tourists shared honours in the Test series, drawing 1–1, though New Zealand won with only a narrow 44-run margin in the first Test, and lost the second by an innings and ten runs. New Zealand's Stephen Fleming enjoyed a successful series with the bat, scoring 182 runs at 60.66 in the Test series and 172 runs at 86.00 in the ODI matches, though the rest of the New Zealand batting line-up were said by the New Zealand press to have let the side down with the bat during the Test matches. Nathan Astle, questioned over his place during the tour, redeemed himself with a half century in the final ODI match to alleviate heavy media pressure.
The Silver Jubilee Independence Cup was a One Day International cricket tournament held in Dhaka, Bangladesh during January 1998. The tournament was held as a celebration of 25 years of Bangladesh's independence and all the games were held at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka, Bangladesh.India, Pakistan and the hosts Bangladesh were the participating teams in the tournament.
The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured Pakistan from August to October 1995 and played a three-match Test series against the Pakistan national cricket team. Sri Lanka won the Test series 2–1. Sri Lanka were captained by Arjuna Ranatunga and Pakistan by Rameez Raja. In addition, the teams played a three-match Limited Overs International (LOI) series which Sri Lanka won 2–1. Sri Lanka won both series having lost the first match in each.
The Zimbabwe national cricket team toured Pakistan from November to December 1993 and played in three cricket tests in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore and three One Day Internationals (ODI) at the same venues. The Zimbabwe team across the tour was captained by Andy Flower while for Pakistan it was Waqar Younis.
The Zimbabwe national cricket team toured Pakistan from October to November 1996 and played a two-match Test series against the Pakistan national cricket team. Pakistan won the Test series 1–0. Zimbabwe were captained by Alistair Campbell and Pakistan by Wasim Akram. In addition, the teams played a three-match One Day International (ODI) series which Pakistan won 3–0.
The Pakistan national cricket team toured the West Indies from March to May 1993 and played a three-match Test series against the West Indies cricket team which the West Indies won 2–0. Pakistan were captained by Wasim Akram; West Indies by Richie Richardson. In addition, the teams played a five-match One Day International (ODI) series which was drawn 2–2 with the final game ending in a tie.
The Standard Bank International Series was the name of the One Day International cricket tournament in South Africa for the 1997-98 season. It was a tri-nation series between South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
