Andre Agassi defeated Todd Martin in the final, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(2–7), 6–3, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 US Open. With the win, he returned to the world No. 1 singles ranking, and helped end Pete Sampras' streak of six year-end No. 1 rankings.
Three-time defending champion Pete Sampras defeated Patrick Rafter in the final, 6–7(10–12), 7–6(7–5), 6–4, 6–2 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2000 Wimbledon Championships. It was Sampras' seventh Wimbledon title and 13th Grand Slam title overall. The win equaled William Renshaw's all-time record of Wimbledon titles, and was an Open Era record in the Gentleman's Singles until 2017, when Roger Federer won his eighth title. His victory also meant he surpassed Roy Emerson as the overall leader in men's major singles titles.
Petr Korda defeated Marcelo Ríos in the final, 6–2, 6–2, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1998 Australian Open. It was Korda's only major title, and Ríos' only major final.
Patrick Rafter defeated Greg Rusedski in the final, 6–3, 6–2, 4–6, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1997 US Open. It was his maiden major title. Rafter became the first Australian to win the title since John Newcombe in 1973. It was Rusedski's first major final, dedicated in honor of Diana, Princess of Wales, who had died a week earlier in Paris.

The 1998 Davidoff Swiss Indoors was a tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. It was the 29th edition of the event known that year as the Davidoff Swiss Indoors, and was part of the World Series of the 1998 ATP Tour. It took place at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, from October 5 through October 11, 1998.
