The 1997 FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women (Portuguese: Campeonato Mundial Feminino Sub-19 da Fiba 1997) took place in Brazil from 5 to 13 July 1997. It was co-organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and Brazilian Basketball Confederation.

Twelve national teams competed for the championship. United States came away with the Gold medal by defeating Australia 78–74 in the final. [1]

The Nigeria women's national basketball team, also known as the D'Tigress, represents Nigeria in international women's basketball competition, and are regulated by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Nigeria. Nigeria has one of the most successful women's national teams on the African Continent, being the current African champions. The games were played in San Juan. This FIBA AmeriCup was to earn the four berths allocated to the Americas for the 1994 FIBA World Championship in Toronto. The United States defeated Puerto Rico in the final to win the tournament, although they had already qualified for the World Championship by winning the 1992 Summer Olympics basketball tournament. Argentina defeated Brazil in the third place game. Cuba defeated Venezuela in 5th place game. All five nations qualified for the 1994 FIBA World Championship.

It was held in Brazil between 6 August and 13 August 1989. Eight national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Americas, the sport's regional governing body. The city of São Paulo hosted the tournament. Cuba won their first title after defeating hosts Brazil in the final.

The 2017 FIBA Women's Asia Cup was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania at the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain. The tournament was held from 23 to 29 July in Bangalore, India. Before this edition, the tournament was known as the FIBA Asia Championship for Women, and only involved FIBA Asia members. FIBA Oceania teams Australia and New Zealand, as well as Fiji competed in the tournament for the first time.
