1998 World Badminton Grand Prix

The 1998 World Badminton Grand Prix was the 16th edition of the World Badminton Grand Prix finals. It was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei from February 24 to February 28, 1999. It did not take place in December as in the years before due to the collision with the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bandar Seri Begawan Municipality in Brunei-Muara, Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital city of the Sultanate of Brunei. It is officially governed as a municipality. Bandar Seri Begawan has an estimated population of 100,700, and including the whole Brunei-Muara District, the metro area has an estimated population of 279,924.

Brunei Southeast Asian coastal sovereign state

Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace, is a country located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, the sovereign state is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. Brunei is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo; the remainder of the island's territory is divided between the nations of Malaysia and Indonesia. 1998 Asian Games 13th edition of the Asian Games

The 1998 Asian Games, officially known as the 13th Asian Games and the XIII Asiad, was an Asian multi-sport event celebrated in Bangkok, Thailand from December 6 to 20, 1998, with 377 events in 36 sports and disciplines participated by 6,554 athletes across the continent. The football event commenced on 30 November 1998, a week earlier than the opening ceremony.

The players were qualified according to the ranking on 1 December 1998. In men's singles the first 16 players were qualified, in women's singles the first 12 and in the doubles the first eight. Margit Borg, the number 13 in the women's singles rank, could participate because the Susi Susanti was pregnant.

Susi Susanti Badminton player

Lucia Francisca Susy Susanti is a retired Indonesian badminton player. Relatively small of stature, she combined quick and graceful movement with elegant shotmaking technique, and regarded by many as one of the greatest women's singles player of all time. Sometimes her name is also spelled Susi Susanti. She is the first Indonesian Olympic gold medalist and the only Indonesian woman until Lilyana Natsir won gold in 2016.

The prize money was USD300,000.

Chen Yufei is a Chinese badminton player. In 2016, she won the girls' singles junior titles at the Asia Junior Championships and the World Junior Championships. At the same year, she also won her first senior title at the 2016 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold. In 2017, she was awarded as the Eddy Choong Most Promising Player of the Year.
