Archery is the art, sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. A person who participates in archery is typically called an archer or a bowman, and a person who is fond of or an expert at archery is sometimes called a toxophilite.
The bow and arrow is a ranged weapon system consisting of an elastic launching device (bow) and long-shafted projectiles (arrows).
Archery had its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics and has been contested in 16 Olympiads. Eighty-four nations have competed in the Olympic archery events, with France appearing the most often at 31 times. The most noticeable trend has been the excellence of South Korean archers, who have won 23 out of 34 gold medals in events since 1984. It is governed by the World Archery Federation. Starting in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries, militaries entirely replaced archers with riflemen and fielded them into regiments. Nonetheless, archery is still practiced today, including in the training regime of certain special forces.
The International Field Archery Association, also known as the IFAA, is an amateur sports association that was founded in 1970 and represents 50,000 field archers in 40 member countries as of 2012. Deepika Kumari is an Indian athlete who competes in the event of archery, is currently ranked World No. 9, and is a former world number one. She won a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women's individual recurve event. She also won a gold medal in the same competition in the women's team recurve event along with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi.

Asian Archery Championships is the archery championship organized by the World Archery Asia.
Kim Woojin is a South Korean archer who first held the world number one ranking in 2011 and held the world record in men's individual recurve archery. He is a student, and lives in Chungju. He is right-handed, and uses 30-inch (76 cm) arrows and a draw weight of 46 pounds (21 kg). At the 2016 Summer Olympics. he won his first Olympic gold medal as a member of the South Korean men's archery team, who defeated the United States in the men's team archery final.
The 2013 World Archery Championships was the 47th edition of the World Archery Championships. The event was held in Belek in the Antalya Province of Turkey from September 29 to October 6, 2013, and was organised by World Archery (FITA). It will be immediately preceded by the 50th World Archery congress in the same location. Qualification and elimination rounds took place at the Papillon Sports Centre in nearby Kadriye, with the medal matches on 5–6 October on the beach of Belek.

Jonathon Milne is an Australian Paralympic archer. In April 2015 he won the National Para Championships, held in Melbourne. In July 2016, he was selected to represent Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics where he won a bronze medal.
The European Para-Archery Championships is a competition for European disabled archers.
The 2017 World Archery Championships was the 49th edition of the World Archery Championships. The event was held in Mexico City, the capital city of Mexico from 15 October to 22 October 2017 and was organised by World Archery. Qualification and elimination rounds took place at the Campo Marte. The competition was preceded by the World Archery Congress on 13–14 October.
World Para Archery Championship, was first held in 1998 in the UK and take place every two years.
