Archery is the art, sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. A person who participates in archery is typically called an archer or a bowman, and a person who is fond of or an expert at archery is sometimes called a toxophilite.

Deepika Kumari is an Indian athlete who competes in the event of archery, is currently ranked World No. 5, and is a former world number one. She won a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women's individual recurve event. Ki Bo-Bae is a South Korean archer. She took up archery in fourth grade at primary school as archery was offered as a school sport, and she now competes for the South Korean national team. In 2011, Ki became the ninth woman to achieve the world number one ranking in the women's individual recurve rankings. She won Olympic gold in both the team and individual archery events at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Ki earned her third Olympic gold medal as a member of the gold medal winning South Korean women's archery team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In the women's individual event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal. In 2016, she ranked as world number 4.

He is right-handed, and uses 30-inch (76 cm) arrows and a draw weight of 46 pounds (21 kg). At the 2016 Summer Olympics. he won his first Olympic gold medal as a member of the South Korean men's archery team, who defeated the United States in the men's team archery final.
The 2013 World Archery Championships was the 47th edition of the World Archery Championships. The event was held in Belek in the Antalya Province of Turkey from September 29 to October 6, 2013, and was organised by World Archery (FITA). It will be immediately preceded by the 50th World Archery congress in the same location. Qualification and elimination rounds took place at the Papillon Sports Centre in nearby Kadriye, with the medal matches on 5–6 October on the beach of Belek.

The event was held in Mexico City, the capital city of Mexico from 15 October to 22 October 2017 and was organised by World Archery. Qualification and elimination rounds took place at the Campo Marte. The competition was preceded by the World Archery Congress on 13–14 October.
