The 2000 Hopman Cup (also known as the Hyundai Hopman Cup for sponsorship reasons) corresponds to the 12th edition of the Hopman Cup tournament between nations in men's and women's tennis. Nine teams participated in the World Group.

Contents

The 2000 Hopman Cup was a tennis championship won by South Africa's Amanda Coetzer and Wayne Ferreira. Coetzer and Ferreira defeated Thailand (Tamarine Tanasugarn and Paradorn Srichaphan) in the final at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth, Western Australia from 1 January through 8 January 2000.

She reached three Grand Slam semifinals and one Grand Slam doubles final. Coetzer earned a reputation for regularly beating players who were ranked higher than her. By virtue of scoring so many upset wins in spite of her five-foot-two (1.58m) stature, she gained the nickname: "The Little Assassin".

Tamarine Tanasugarn is a Thai former tennis player. Born in Los Angeles, she turned professional in 1994, and has been in the top 20 in both singles and doubles.

Roger Federer defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. It was his first US Open title and his fourth major title overall, he became first man to capture the Australian Open, the Wimbledon, and the US Open in a season since Jimmy Connors in 1974. With the win, he became the tenth man to win three majors in a calendar year.

Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams in the final, 7–6(7–4), 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2003 Australian Open. It was her fourth consecutive major singles triumph, completing the "Serena Slam", both a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the career Grand Slam. It was also Venus' record fourth consecutive runner-up finish at a major, losing every final to Serena. Serena saved two match points en route to the title, against Kim Clijsters in the semifinals.

Attila Sávolt is a tennis player from Hungary, who represented his native country at the 2000 Sydney Olympics where he lost to Paradorn Srichaphan in his first match. He also defeated Jiří Novák in their only ATP Tour match-up at the 2002 Orange Warsaw Open, when the Czech was ranked 5th in the world. He participated in the 2004 Hopman Cup alongside Petra Mandula. He won the Hungarian Championships two times. He was coaching Márton Fucsovics and is currently a sports commentary on Sport 1.

The 2003 WTA Tour was the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 2003 tennis season. The Hopman Cup IX corresponds to the ninth edition of the Hopman Cup tournament between nations in men's and women's tennis. The tournament was played between 29 December 1996 and 4 January 1997 at the Burswood Dome in Perth, Western Australia.
