The Hopman Cup XXV (also known as the Hyundai Hopman Cup for sponsorship reasons) corresponds to the 25th edition of the Hopman Cup tournament between nations in men's and women's tennis. The tournament commenced on 29 December 2012 at the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia. [1]

Contents

Eight teams competed for the title, with two round robin groups of four, from which the top team of each group progress to the final.

Czech Republic were the 2012 champions. In that tournament's final the Czech Republic team of Petra Kvitová and Tomáš Berdych defeated France's Marion Bartoli and Richard Gasquet 2–0. This was the Czech Republic's second Hopman Cup title. They decided not to defend their title; Berdych instead competed at the 2013 Aircel Chennai Open and Kvitová decided to participate at the 2013 Brisbane International.[ citation needed ]

The 2013 Hopman Cup was won by Spain – Spain's fourth title, defeating Serbia in the final 2–1. [2] Serbia won the men's singles, followed by Spain's winning of the women's singles; then the deciding mixed doubles event was won by Spain in straight sets. [3]

Tournament

The 2013 Hyundai Hopman Cup is an invitational tennis tournament and is also known as the Official Mixed Teams Championships of the ITF. The 2013 cup has prize money of $1 million and will follow the traditional round robin format, the leading teams after three round robin matches qualify for the final. All matches are best of three sets with the exception of the doubles match where a match tie break, first to ten points, is played if the match is tied at one set all. All ties are played in this format; women's singles, men's singles and finally mixed doubles. In the event of a tie in the final group standings the following will be used to separate the nations;

The Hopman Cup is an international tennis tournament that plays mixed-gender teams on a country-by-country basis. It was first held in Perth, Western Australia each year from 1989 to 2019, played on indoor hardcourt, before being replaced on the calendar in 2020 by the now defunct ATP Cup. The tournament was played in an eight-team format, with the exception for the years 1990-1995, with twelve teams competing. It returned in July 2023 in Nice, France, played on outdoor clay, with six teams invited to participate.

Tomáš Berdych is a Czech former professional tennis player. His most notable achievement was reaching the final of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, completing consecutive upsets in the defeat of top seed and six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, and of No. 3 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. In the final, he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Berdych's biggest career title was the Paris Masters in 2005 as an unseeded player, defeating Ivan Ljubičić in the final. Berdych reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slams. Alongside his Wimbledon performance in the same year, he reached the semifinals of the 2010 French Open, defeating fourth seed Andy Murray in straight sets in the fourth round, and dropping no sets until his loss in the semifinals to Robin Söderling. Radek Štěpánek is a Czech former professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was world No. 8 and best doubles ranking was world No. 4. Štěpánek's biggest achievements are reaching two Masters 1000 event finals and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2006, as well as winning the deciding match for Czech Republic's Davis Cup winning team in 2012 and again in 2013. In doubles, he won his first Grand Slam title at the 2012 Australian Open, along with Indian partner Leander Paes, defeating the Bryan Brothers in the final. Paes and Štěpánek also won the men's doubles title at the 2013 US Open, defeating Bruno Soares and Alexander Peya in the final. Slovakia is a nation that has competed at the Hopman Cup tournament on eight occasions, first competing at the 10th Hopman Cup in 1998. They have won the title three times: in 1998, 2005 and 2009.

France is a nation that has competed at twenty five Hopman Cup tournaments and first competed in the inaugural Hopman Cup in 1989. Spain has competed at the Hopman Cup tournament on eighteen occasions, their first appearance coming at the 2nd annual staging of the event in 1990. They have won the tournament four times: in 1990, 2002, 2010 and 2013. They were also runners-up on two occasions: in 1993 and 2007.
