The Continental Cup 2001–02 was the fifth edition of the IIHF Continental Cup. The season started on September 21, 2001, and finished on February 13, 2002.
The Continental Cup is an ice hockey tournament for European clubs, begun in 1997 after the discontinuing of the European Cup. It was intended for teams from countries without representatives in the European Hockey League, with participating teams chosen by the countries' respective ice hockey associations. Hans Dobida served as chairman of the Continental Cup until 2018.
The tournament was won by ZSC Lions, who beat HC Milano Vipers in the final.
The Zürcher Schlittschuh Club Lions are a professional ice hockey team located in Zürich, Switzerland, playing in the National League (NL). The home arena, the 11,200 seat Hallenstadion, is in the Zürich district of Oerlikon. The team was founded in 1930 and played at the Dolder-Kunsteisbahn from its establishment until 1950.
Hockey Club Junior Milano Vipers was an Italian professional ice hockey team from Milan. Founded in 1998 as Hockey Club Junior Milano, was renamed Vipers in 2000.
In June 2008 the organization was disbanded and replaced with Hockey Milano Rossoblu, a new club that employs much of the same office staff, but does not benefit from the same fundings and operates on a significantly tighter budget.
During their short History, the Vipers won 5 Scudetti, 3 Italy Cups and 3 Italian Super Cups.

The Asiago Hockey 1935, is an Italian ice hockey team from Asiago which plays in the Alps Hockey League and formerly Serie A. Not to be confused with the Asiago Vipers.
Vålerenga Ishockey is a Norwegian ice hockey team based in Oslo, Norway. Vålerenga has been the dominant force in Norwegian hockey since the 1960s, claiming 26 national championships and 29 regular season titles. Their old home arena is Jordal Amfi, located in central-eastern Oslo. A new arena at Jordal is currently under construction to replace the old arena, which was built for the 1952 Winter Olympics. The team's present head coach is Roy Johansen. The General Manager is Espen "Shampo" Knutsen, a former NHL player and club legend.
ERC Ingolstadt is a German professional ice hockey club that plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Commonly known as the Panthers, the team plays its home games at the Saturn Arena in Ingolstadt.

The National League (NL) is a professional ice hockey league in Switzerland. It is the top tier of the Swiss hockey league system and of the two-tier National League. Prior to the 2017–18 season, the league was officially called National League A. The NL has the most attended hockey club in Europe, SC Bern, and is also the most attended league within the same continent, averaging 6,882 spectators for the 2016–17 season.
