The 2002 Korean Professional Football Reserve League was the fourth season of the R League. Anyang LG Cheetahs won the national title after defeating Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in the Championship final.

Lee Chun-soo is a retired South Korean football player. He played as a forward for the South Korea national team at the 2002 and 2006 editions of the FIFA World Cup.

Daegu FC is a South Korean professional football club based in Daegu. The club was founded as a community club at the end of 2002, and made their K League 1 debut in 2003. Daegu has played mostly in the K League 1 but was relegated at the end of the 2013 season to the K League 2. They were promoted back to the top tier for the 2017 season and went on to win the Korean FA Cup in 2018, which qualified them for the 2019 AFC Champions League. The club's best season in K League 1 was in 2021, when they finished third out of twelve teams. The same year, they were also runners-up in the Korean FA Cup and progressed to the round of 16 in the 2021 AFC Champions League.
Daejeon Hana Citizen Football Club is a South Korean professional football team based in Daejeon that competes in the K League 1, the top tier of South Korean football. At the time of its foundation in 1997, Daejeon Citizen was the first community club in South Korea, not belonging to any company. The club first entered the K League for the 1997 season, finishing in seventh place. In spite of a limited budget, Daejeon won the 2001 Korean FA Cup. It has not achieved sustained success in the K League, historically occupying the middle and lower reaches of the standings each season. At the end of the 2013 season, Daejeon was relegated to the K League Challenge, the second-tier league.
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC is a South Korean professional football club based in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province that competes in the K League 1, the top tier of South Korean football. Jeonbuk have won the K League a record nine times, including five consecutive titles between 2017 and 2021, and the Korean FA Cup five times. The club have also won the AFC Champions League twice, first in 2006, becoming the first club from East Asia to win the tournament since it was launched in its current format in 2003.
