The 2006 Korean Professional Football Reserve League was the eighth season of the R League. Incheon United won the national title for the first time after defeating Busan IPark in the Championship final.

The 2013 K League Classic was the 31st season of the top division of South Korean professional football. The South Korean professional football league, K League, was split into two divisions since this year, and the top division was named the "K League Classic". Its fixtures were announced on 30 January, and began on 2 March.

The 2005 K League Championship was the ninth competition of the K League Championship, and was held to decide the 23rd champions of the K League. After the regular season was finished, the first stage winners, the second stage winners, and the top two clubs in the overall table qualified for the championship. Each semi-final was played as a single match, and the final consisted of two matches.

South Korea was the host nation of the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon from 19 September to 4 October 2014. South Korea was represented by the Korean Olympic Committee, and the South Korean delegation was the largest in this edition of the Asian Games.
