The 2003 African Junior Athletics Championships was the sixth edition of the biennial, continental athletics tournament for African athletes aged 19 years or younger. It was held in Garoua, Cameroon, from 31 July to 3 August. A total of 44 events were contested, 22 by men and 22 by women. [1] [2]

Abderrahmane Hammad Zaheer is a former Algerian track and field athlete who competed in the high jump. He represented his country at the Summer Olympics in 2000, taking the bronze medal and made a second appearance at the 2004 Athens Olympics. His personal best of 2.34 m is the Algerian record for the event. He retired from the sport in 2010. In 2020, he became the President of the Algerian Olympic Committee.

She is the current commonwealth champion and a three-time African senior champion in the long Jump and holds a personal best of 7.17 m She currently holds the commonwealth games record, African junior record and African record in the event. She's a two time medalist at the world athletics championship, an Olympic bronze medalist and also a five-time African junior champion in athletics.
Agnes Jebet Tirop was a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who mainly competed in the 5000 metres and cross country running. At the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships she became the second-youngest ever gold medallist in the women's race after Zola Budd. She was a medallist at junior level at the World Cross Country and World Junior Championships in Athletics. She was also the junior champion at the African Cross Country Championships in 2014. She held a 5000 m best of 14:50.36 minutes. She won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres events at the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships and, at the time of her death in 2021, was the world-record holder in the 10 kilometres women's only event.
