The Confederation of African Athletics is the continental association for the sport of athletics in Africa. It is headquartered in Dakar, Senegal. Athletics South Africa is the national governing body for the sport of athletics in South Africa, recognised by the IAAF, and also a member of Confederation of African Athletics. The association is based in Johannesburg.

The North African Cross Country Championships is an international cross country running competition between the nations of North Africa, organised by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA). It is typically held over one day in February and features a senior and junior race for both men and women. All four races contain an individual and team competition. Senior short course races were also held during the period where that event was present at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

The East African Athletics Championships, also known as the Zone V Championships, was an international athletics competition between East African nations, organised by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA). It was established in 1995, the same year as two other regional championships: the West and North African Athletics Championships and the African Southern Region Athletics Championships. The competition succeeded the East and Central African Championships as the premier regional athletics competition for the region. All the events at the championships were in outdoor track and field.
