Nibret Melak Bogale (born 9 October 1999) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. [1]

Career

He won the Cinque Mulini in 2021, the second leg of the World Athletics Cross Country Permit series completing a double for Ethiopia with Tsehay Gemechu winning the women's race. It was Melak's second consecutive podium finish in the Cross Country Permit series, following his runner-up spot at the Campaccio in San Giorgio su Legnano the previous week. Earlier in the year he successfully defended his senior men's title at the Jan Meda International Cross Country, which doubles as the Ethiopian Championships. [2] Two weeks prior, he had beaten two-time world champion Muktar Edris over 5000m in Addis Ababa. [3]

In June 21 he shaved 13 seconds off his personal best in the 5000m going from 13:07.27 to 12:54.22 as he finished second in the Ethiopian Olympic trials behind Getnet Wale and ahead of Milkesa Mengesha to secure his place at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. [4] Competing in the 5000 metres in Tokyo, he did not qualify from the heats. [5]

Melak defended his Cinque Mulini title in January 2022. [6] He finished sixth in the men’s 5000m at the Kip Keino Classic on May 7, 2022 in a time of 13:22.85. [7]

He won the Lisbon half marathon in March 2023. [8] He finished seventh in the half marathon at the 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia in October 2023. [9]

He won gold at the 2023 African Games over 10,000 metres. [10] In June 2024, he won gold in the 10,000 metres at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon. [11]

She is a two-time world champion after winning the 5,000 m in 2017 and again in 2019, when she set a new championship record. Obiri also took world bronze for the 1,500 metres in 2013 and silver in the 10,000 m in 2022. She won the 3,000 metres race at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, claimed silver in 2014, and placed fourth in 2018. She is the 2019 World Cross Country champion. Obiri triumphed in the 2023 Boston Marathon, her second marathon race. She places fifth in the half marathon on the world all-time list.

Muktar Edris is an Ethiopian professional long-distance runner who competes in track and cross country races.

Aron Kifle Teklu is an Eritrean long-distance runner. He is the bronze medallist from the 2018 World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia. Aron is also the silver medallist in the 10000m from both the 2016 World U20 Championships and the 2019 All-African Games.

Emily Sisson is an American long-distance runner. She set the North American record in the marathon on October 9, 2022, when she ran 2:18:29 to finish second at the Chicago Marathon. Sisson also held the American record in the half marathon from May 2022 until July 2023. She represented the United States in the 10000 metres at the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships, finishing 9th and 10th. In June 2021, she won the 10000m at the 2020 US Olympic Trials and placed 10th in the 10000m final at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2024, she placed second in the marathon at the US Olympic Trials, qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics. She competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics Women's marathon on 11 August 2024, where she finished 23rd.

Letesenbet Gidey is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. In the 10,000 metres, she is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist, 2019 World silver medallist, and 2022 World champion. Her record of 29.01.03 is the second fastest time ever, just recently broken by Kenyan rival Beatrice Chebet. Letesenbet is the first athlete ever, male or female, to hold the 5000m, 10000m, and half marathon world records, simultaneously.

Selemon Barega Shirtaga is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, silver for the 5,000 metres at the 2019 World Championships in Doha and bronze in the 10,000 metres at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Barega is a two-time 3,000 metres World Indoor Championship medallist, taking silver in 2018, and a gold in 2022.

Getnet Wale Bayabl is an Ethiopian runner specialising in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. He finished fourth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as at the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. Wale won the silver medal at the 2019 African Games and a bronze at the 2018 African Championships in Athletics.
