1Representing Africa
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". The competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit. The triple jump was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games' inception in 1896.
The men's triple jump competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was held at the Olympic Stadium on 20–22 August. Forty-seven athletes from 35 nations competed. The event was won by Christian Olsson of Sweden, the nation's first victory in the event since 1948 and third overall. Marian Oprea won Romania's first men's triple jump medal with his silver. Russia earned bronze for the second consecutive Games, this time with Danil Burkenya taking the medal.
Tereza Moncheva Marinova is a Bulgarian athlete who specialised in the triple jump. She was the gold medallist in that event at the 2000 Summer Olympics and a bronze medallist at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics and 1998 European Athletics Championships. She won triple jump titles at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships. She made her international debut in 1994 and retired in 2008.

Galina Valentinovna Chistyakova is a retired athlete who represented the Soviet Union and later Slovakia. She is the current world record holder in the long jump, jumping 7.52 metres on 11 June 1988. She is the 1988 Olympic bronze medalist and the 1989 World Indoor champion. She is also a former world record holder in the triple jump with 14.52 metres in 1989.
The men's triple jump was one of six jumping events on the Athletics at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme in London. The competition was held on 25 July 1908. Twenty athletes from eight nations competed. NOCs could enter up to 12 athletes. The event was won by Tim Ahearne of Great Britain, breaking a streak of three American victories in the triple jump. All three medal-winning nations were on the podium for the first time.

He has a personal best long jump of 8.32 metres, achieved in October 2009 in Beirut, helping him to win the silver medal at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie.
Aarik Wilson is an American long jumper and triple jumper. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Tania Murray Haigh is a former New Zealand high jumper and triple jumper. She won the gold medal in the women's high jump representing her country at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and won eight national athletic championship titles.

Olga RypakovaAlekseyeva; 30 November 1984) is a former Kazakhstani track and field athlete. Originally a heptathlete, she switched to focus on the long jump and began to compete in the triple jump after 2007. Her first successes came in the combined events at Asian competitions – she won the women's pentathlon at the 2005 Asian Indoor Games and took the heptathlon gold at the 2006 Asian Games the following year.
Teddy Tamgho is a French triple jumper and long jumper. He specialises in the triple jump. He is the former triple jump world indoor record holder, achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2011 European Indoor Championships. He is the world's sixth best ever triple jumper outdoors, with his best mark of 18.04 metres achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.
Adhemar Ferreira da Silva was a Brazilian triple jumper. He won two Olympic gold medals and set four world records, the last being 16.56 metres in 1955 Pan American Games. In his early career he also competed in the long jump, placing fourth at the 1951 Pan American Games. He broke world records in triple jump on five occasions during his illustrious career. To date, he remains the only track and field athlete from South America to have won two Olympic gold medals.
Keila da Silva Costa is a Brazilian long jumper and triple jumper. She has competed in three Olympic Games, 2004, 2008 and 2012, and has reached the final round both there and in World Championships and World Indoor Championships. She is the South American record holder in triple jump with 14.58 metres, and has 6.88 metres in the long jump. Both results were achieved in 2007.
Fabrizio Donato is an Italian athlete competing in the triple jump and occasionally in the long jump. He is known for winning gold medals at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and the 2009 European Indoor Championships, the latter in a new championship record of 17.59 metres. He is the Italian record holder with 17.60 metres outdoor and 17.73 indoor.
Margrethe Renstrøm is a Norwegian long jumper. She has competed with modest results in international junior and senior championships, most notably the 2009 World Championships. She is best known for her personal best is 6.68 metres, achieved in July 2010 in Barcelona, which is the current Norwegian record. When she broke the record, it was the oldest existing athletics record in Norway. Renstrøm also has 13.25 metres in the triple jump, achieved in July 2006 at Bislett stadion.
The 2007 South American Championships in Athletics were held at the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Mello in São Paulo, Brazil from 7 June to 9 June 2007. A total of 44 events were contested, of which 22 by male and 22 by female athletes. Continuing in their traditional dominant role, the hosts Brazil easily topped both the medal and points tables, having won 28 gold medals and 61 medals in total. The next best team was Colombia who had a haul of seven golds and 26 overall, while Argentina took third with 13 medals of which 4 were gold.
Maho Hanaoka is a Japanese former track and field athlete who competed mainly in the long jump and triple jump. She is one of Japan's best female athletes in the horizontal jumps: she holds the Japanese records for the triple jump outdoors with 14.04 m and is also the record holder in both the long and triple jump indoors. Her long jump best of 6.82 m is a former Japanese record, second to Kumiko Ikeda.
The women's triple jump event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 30 July and 1 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium.
