Joseph Taiwo (born 24 August 1959) is a retired Nigerian athlete who competed in the triple jump.
His personal best was 17.22 metres, achieved in June 1988 in Bauchi. This ranks him second among Nigerian triple jumpers, behind Ajayi Agbebaku, and fifth in Africa, behind Ndabazinhle Mdhlongwa, Agbebaku, Khotso Mokoena and Andrew Owusu. [1]

The flag of Nigeria was designed by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi and was officially adopted to represent the nation of Nigeria at midnight on 1 October 1960, the day the country gained independence. The flag was chosen as part of a nationwide open contest held by the government, with Akinkunmi's design being selected as the winner of a field of over three thousand entries. The flag is a vertical bicolour green-white-green design, with the green to represent agricultural and white to represent peace and unity.

Aladefa was a member of the first historically black college to ever win any NCAA track and field competition (1992). She competed in the women's 100 metres hurdles at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Ajayi Agbebaku is a retired Nigerian Olympian who competed in the triple jump. He still holds the indoor record at the University of Missouri with his jump of 16.60 metres at the 1978 NCAA indoor championships.
Blessing Oghnewresem Okagbare-Otegheri is a former Nigerian track and field athlete who specialized in long jump and sprints. She is an Olympic and World Championships medallist in the long jump and a world medalist in the 200 metres. Okagbare also holds the women's 100 metres Commonwealth Games record at 10.85 seconds. She is currently serving a 10-year ban for breaching multiple World Athletics anti-doping rules. Her ban expires on 30 July 2032.
The men's triple jump event at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea had an entry list of 45 competitors, with 43 athletes from 31 nations starting in two qualifying groups before the final (12) took place on Saturday September 24, 1988. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Khristo Markov of Bulgaria, the nation's first medal and victory in the men's triple jump.
