Odile Ahouanwanou (born 5 January 1991) is a Beninese heptathlete, who also specialises in the 100 metres hurdles; she holds Beninese records in both events. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2015 African Games and two African Championships in Athletics, and won a silver medal in the heptathlon at the 2015 African Games.

Competition

Ahouanwanou debuted internationally at the 2012 African Championships in Athletics in Porto-Novo, Benin. [3] She competed in the heptathlon and finished sixth overall with a points score of 4983, [3] 941 points behind the gold medalist. [3] Ahouanwanou's best result in an individual discipline was fourth in both the javelin and shot put. [3] At the 2012 Summer Olympics she competed in the 100 metres hurdles. [4] She placed eighth out of nine competitors in Heat 6, setting a new Beninese national record at 14.76 seconds. [4]

Ahouanwanou's next major competition was the 2014 African Championships in Athletics, [5] where she finished eighth in the heptathlon with 4309 points. [5] She won the shot put and javelin disciplines, but she was disqualified in the 100 metres hurdles. [5] Ahouanwanou then competed in the 2015 African Games, [6] where she won the silver medal in the heptathlon with a points score of 5734. [6] She finished first in the shot put and in the javelin, second in the 200 metres, fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 100 metres hurdles, seven in the 800 metres and eighth in the long jump. [6]

She finished in 8th place in the heptathlon at the 2019 World Championships, with a new national record points total of 6210. [7]

The pentathlon or women's pentathlon is a combined track and field event in which each woman competes in five separate events over one day. The distance or time for each event is converted to points via scoring tables, with the overall ranking determined by total points. Since 1949 the events have been sprint hurdling, high jump, shot put, long jump, and a flat race. The sprint hurdles distance was 80 m outdoors until 1969 and thereafter 100 m; in indoor pentathlon the distance is 60 m. The flat race was 200 m until 1976 and thereafter 800 m. In elite-level outdoor competition, the pentathlon was superseded in 1981 by the heptathlon, which has seven events, with both 200 m and 800 m, as well as the javelin throw. Pentathlon is still contested at school and masters level and indoors.

Natalya Roshchupkina is a Russian heptathlete. She represented Russia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was three times a participant at the World Championships in Athletics. She also competed twice at the European Athletics Championships.

Shelia Burrell is a retired American heptathlete. She was a two-time representative of the United States at the Summer Olympics, competing in 2000 and 2004. Her best Olympic finish was fourth place. She also competed twice at the World Championships in Athletics, which included a bronze medal in 2001. She was also a two-time silver medalist at the 1999 Pan American Games. Her personal best for the heptathlon 6472 points and she was American national champion on four occasions.
