Grace Wanjiru Njue (born 1979) is a female race walker from Kenya. She is a three-time African Champion and a Commonwealth Games medallist.

Wanjiru set a 20 Kilometres race walk African Record when she won the event at the 2010 African Championships clocking 1:34:19 hours. The previous record (1:36:18) was held by Susan Vermeulen of South Africa and set in 1999. [2] Wanjiru was already the reigning Kenyan record (time 1:39.50) holder, setting it when she won the 2008 African Championships title. [3] Previously in 2004, she had set a new 20 kilometres national record (1:41:00) in Nairobi. [4]

Later in 2010 she won bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

She is also a multiple-time national champion. [5] In 2011, she won 20 kilometres race walk at the national championships once again setting another African record of 1:28:15 [6]

Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot is a Kenyan long-distance runner. She represented Kenya at the Summer Olympics in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016, winning the silver medal in the 5000 metres and bronze in the 10,000 metres at the 2012 London Olympics as well as gold in the 5000 m and silver in the 10,000 m at the 2016 Rio Olympics, setting a new Olympic record in the former. Cheruiyot won the silver medal in the 5000 m at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and became the world champion in the event at the 2009 edition, repeating this achievement in 2011, when she also won the 10000 m. She added gold for the latter event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. The men's marathon at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 24 August at 7:30am in Beijing, ending in the Beijing National Stadium. It was the last time in Summer Olympics history that the start and/or finish of the men's marathon route was located inside the Olympic Stadium. Ninety-five athletes from 56 nations competed. The winner of the event was Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya, who set an Olympic record in the time of two hours, six minutes, and 32 seconds. It was Kenya's first victory in the men's marathon. Morocco won its first medal in the event since 1960, with Jaouad Gharib's silver. Tsegay Kebede of Ethiopia took bronze.
