Chima Kingsley Ugwu // ⓘ (born 19 July 1973 in Enugu) is a Nigerian shot putter. He also occasionally competed in discus throw.
He competed at the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics, and the World Championships in 1993, 1997 and 2003 without reaching the finals.
Ugwu came to the United States in 1994 and won the 1995 NJCAA outdoor shot put title while attending Central Arizona College. [1] [2] He was then recruited to play defensive tackle for the Arizona Wildcats football team, even though he had never played the sport before. [3] [4] He also won Pacific-10 Conference titles in both the shot put and discus throw. [5]
His personal best throw is 20.26 metres, achieved in July 2000 in Lagos. This is the previous Nigerian record, and ranks him fifth in South Africans Janus Robberts, Burger Lambrechts and Karel Potgieter.
In 2017, Ugwu was indicted for attempting to ship firearms to Nigeria. [6] Chima was arrested in 2013 not 2017. The case went to trial in 2015 when charges were dismissed.
His son, Kingsley, plays football at Kansas State. [7]
John Carl Godina is an American shot putter, whose record includes three World Championship wins and two Olympic medals. He also competes in discus. Godina was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Thomas Alan "Ferocious" Brosius was a track and field athlete. He was declared an "All-American" at Kansas State University in the shot put and discus events for the 1972 season, and as of his death in 2019, still holds the Maryland all class high school state record in the shot put at 64' 6 1/2" set May 25, 1968. He also held the state discus record at 184' 10" for 31 years until it was broken in 1999.
Ryan Keith Whiting is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 22.28 meters outdoors and 22.35 meters indoors. His biggest international senior success to date is first place at the 2012 World Indoor Championships. He represented the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, 2013 World Championships in Athletics, 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2012 London Olympics.

She competed for her country of birth in 2016 at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. She switched allegiance from the United States to Nigeria in 2019. She represented Nigeria in the shot put at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Earlier that year, she won two medals at the 2019 African Games.
