Chima Kingsley Ugwu // ⓘ (born 19 July 1973 in Enugu) is a Nigerian shot putter. He also occasionally competed in discus throw.
He competed at the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics, and the World Championships in 1993, 1997 and 2003 without reaching the finals.
Ugwu came to the United States in 1994 and won the 1995 NJCAA outdoor shot put title while attending Central Arizona College. [1] [2] He was then recruited to play defensive tackle for the Arizona Wildcats football team, even though he had never played the sport before. [3] [4] He also won Pacific-10 Conference titles in both the shot put and discus throw. [5]
His personal best throw is 20.26 metres, achieved in July 2000 in Lagos. This is the previous Nigerian record, and ranks him fifth in South Africans Janus Robberts, Burger Lambrechts and Karel Potgieter.
In 2017, Ugwu was indicted for attempting to ship firearms to Nigeria. [6] Chima was arrested in 2013 not 2017. The case went to trial in 2015 when charges were dismissed.
His son, Kingsley, plays football at Kansas State. [7]
John Carl Godina is an American shot putter, whose record includes three World Championship wins and two Olympic medals. He also competes in discus. Godina was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Margaret "Meg" Elizabeth Stone is a retired Scottish discus thrower and Shot putter. She reached the Olympic finals at discus in Moscow 1980 (9th) and Los Angeles 1984 (5th). She also won the 1982 Commonwealth Games title. Thomas Alan "Ferocious" Brosius was a track and field athlete. He was declared an "All-American" at Kansas State University in the shot put and discus events for the 1972 season, and as of his death in 2019, still holds the Maryland all class high school state record in the shot put at 64' 6 1/2" set May 25, 1968. He also held the state discus record at 184' 10" for 31 years until it was broken in 1999.
Ryan Keith Whiting is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 22.28 meters outdoors and 22.35 meters indoors. His biggest international senior success to date is first place at the 2012 World Indoor Championships. He represented the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, 2013 World Championships in Athletics, 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2012 London Olympics.
The 2012–13 Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team represented the University of Arizona during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by fourth-year head coach Sean Miller and played home games at McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona as members of the Pac-12 Conference.

He specializes in the shot put, in which he is the only three-time Olympic gold medalist, having won in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Paris, and also a two-time World Champion. He holds the world record in the shot put, both indoors and outdoors. He set the outdoor world record at 23.56 meters in May 2023, improving upon his previous record of 23.37 m from July 2021. He has held the indoor record of 22.82 m since January 2021.

She was the 2016 discus gold medalist at the African Championships in Athletics. Born in the United States, she set Ivy League records in the throws while at Harvard University.

Oyesade "Sade" Olatoye is an athlete competing in the shot put and hammer throw. Born in the United States, she represents Nigeria internationally. She competed for her country of birth in 2016 at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. She switched allegiance from the United States to Nigeria in 2019. She represented Nigeria in the shot put at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Earlier that year, she won two medals at the 2019 African Games.
Jordan Geist is an American shot putter. He won the silver medal in the men's shot put event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
