The 2004 Challenge Cup, known as the Powergen Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 103rd staging of the Challenge Cup, a European rugby league cup competition.

Contents

The competition began in November 2003, and ended with the final in May 2004, which was played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff due to ongoing reconstruction work at Wembley Stadium.

The tournament was won by St. Helens, who beat Wigan Warriors 32–16 in the final. The Lance Todd Trophy was won by Sean Long.

Chris Joynt is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. A Great Britain international representative prop, second-row and loose forward, he played his club football with St Helens, with whom he won numerous titles, as well as Oldham and a stint in Australia with the Newcastle Knights. He lifted many trophies throughout a glittering Knowsley Road career, including consecutive Super League championships in 1999 and 2000.

The 2007 Carnegie Challenge Cup Final was played by the holders St. Helens and Catalans Dragons at the new Wembley Stadium on 25 August 2007. The Dragons were the first French club ever to take part in the competition's final. After a competitive game, St Helens won the competition with a 30 - 8 victory.

The 2010 Wigan Warriors season is the club's fifteenth season in the Super League, since its launch in 1996. The 2001 Challenge Cup is a rugby league football tournament which began its preliminary stages in December 2000 and ended with the final on 28 April 2001. Bradford Bulls were the reigning champions, following their 24–18 victory over Leeds Rhinos in the 2000 Challenge Cup at Murrayfield Stadium.
