Xandee Belgian singer

Xandee is a stage name of Sandy Boets, Flemish singer who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. At the age of 16 she founded the pop duo Touch of Joy with Serge (Sergio) Quisquater. Sergio and his band Sergio & The Ladies represented Belgium in ESC 2002 with the song "Sister".

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Song contest

The Eurovision Song Contest 2004 was the 49th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Istanbul, Turkey, following Sertab Erener's win at the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia with the song "Everyway That I Can" – marking the country's first victory in the contest. The national broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), staged the event at the Abdi İpekçi Arena on 12 and 15 May 2004.

Joeri Fransen is the winner of Idool 2004, the Belgian version of Pop Idol.

<i>Samson en Gert</i> (TV series) television series

Samson & Gert is a Flemish children's television series produced by Eline van Noppen, centered on the talking dog Samson and his owner Gert. In its entire run, the show was originally aired on TV1 from Christmas Day 1989 until 1 December 1997, where it moved to Ketnet and continues airing all of its episodes to this day.

Familie is a Flemish television soap opera set in Mechelen. Created by Herman Verbaet, Familie was first broadcast on 30 December 1991. It has been broadcast consistently for 5-6 evenings per week, with only 2-3 month hiatuses during summer. It is currently being produced by Zodiak Belgium and running on VTM.

Thuis is a Belgian television soap opera, which airs on één, which is in the hands of VRT, the national broadcasting channel of the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium.

Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest

Belgium has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 61 times since making its debut as one of the seven countries at the first contest in 1956. The only countries with more appearances are Germany (63), France (62) and the United Kingdom (62). Belgium have been absent only three times in total, in 1994, 1997 and 2001, due to low scores in the previous contests that relegated them from the contest. Belgium has won the contest once, in 1986.

Idool 2003 was the first season of the Belgian version of the Idol series. It was won by Peter Evrard, and followed by Idool 2004. The series was officially launched on 28 September 2002 by Belgian television network VTM. The hosts of the show are Koen & Kris Wauters of the group Clouseau. The jury members were Jean Blaute, Nina De Man, Jan Leyers & Bart Brusseleers.

Idool 2004 was the second season of the Flemish version of the Idol series. It was won by Joeri Fransen, who could not follow the footsteps of former winner Peter Evrard and only release one album before he was dropped by his record company. However, second runner-up Sandrine Van Handenhoven, who was a longtime favorite throughout the season above the winner and the runner-up, enjoyed an ongoing success as a singer as well as the host of the Flemish Big Brother programme and therefore is now considered as the unofficial winner of Idool 2005 as she almost represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, coming in close 2nd in the national final. Laura Ramaekers has already been a semifinalist on Idool 2003.

Eurosong is the current name for the show in search for Belgium's song and artist for the Eurovision Song Contest. Belgium has two national broadcasters of the contest, Flemish broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT) and Walloon broadcaster Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF). The two broadcasters rotate selection for the Eurovision Song Contest each year.

"1 Life" was the Belgian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, performed in English by Xandee.

"In the Disco" was the Bosnia-Herzegovinian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, performed entirely in English by Deen.

Belgium was represented by Xandee and the song "1 Life". VRT's organized the Belgian National Final 'Eurosong 2004', which took place on February 15, 2004. Four preselection programmes were produced and broadcast on 18th and 25 January and 1st and 8 February 2004. All five programmes were broadcast from Studio 100 in Schelle and were hosted by Bart Peeters. The automatic favourite "1 Life" triumphed throughout the competition, which included a performance from Barbara Dex who came in last for Belgium at Eurovision 1993.

Belgium were represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 by the French-language broadcaster Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF), who choose the Belgian entry for the contest through an internal selection. The song did not progress from the first semi-final of the competition, finishing second to last with just one point.

"Believe Me" was the Russian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, performed in English by Yulia Savicheva. Composed by Maxim Fadeev and with lyrics by Brenda Loring. As Russia had finished the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in the top 10, the song was pre-qualified for the final. In the final, it was performed fourteenth, following Belgium's Xandee with "1 Life" and preceding the Republic of Macedonia's Toše Proeski with "Life". At the close of voting, it had received 67 points, placing 11th in a field of 24.

<i>Idool</i> (TV series) Belgian TV programme

Idool is the Belgian version of the Idol series. The series was launched in late 2002 by Belgian television network vtm. The contestants are first narrowed down to 100 contestants, and then down to 30-50 through several auditions and tests by a panel of judges. From this point on, the viewers decide who are in and who are out, and the judges limit themselves to commenting. TV viewers being what they are, the votes are based not solely on the singers vocal performance, but also on his or her looks, clothes, entertainment value, and other factors.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Belgian entry was selected through a combination of an internal selection, to select the artist, and a national final, to select the song, both organised by the Belgian broadcaster VRT. Iris represented Belgium with the song "Would You?", which failed to qualify from the first semi-final, achieving 17th place with 16 points.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. The Belgian entry was selected through a combination of an internal selection to select the artist and a national final to select the song, organised by the Belgian broadcaster Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF). Roberto Bellarosa represented Belgium with the song "Love Kills", which qualified from the first semi-final of the competition and finished in 12th place in the final, scoring 71 points. This was Belgiums's second best placing since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "What's the Pressure" written by Sanne Putseys, Louis Favre, Birsen Uçar and Yannick Werther. The song was performed by Laura Tesoro. The Belgian entry for the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden was selected through the national final Eurosong 2016, organised by the Flemish broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). The competition featured five competing acts and consisted of two presentation shows and a final. In the final on 17 January 2016, the winner was selected over two rounds of voting: the first selected the top two via the votes of ten international jury groups and a public televote, while the second selected the winner solely by public televoting. "What's the Pressure" performed by Laura Tesoro was the winner after placing first during both rounds of voting.
