Fu Mingxia is a retired Chinese female diver, multiple Olympic gold medalist and world champion. She won the platform-diving world championship in 1991 at the age of 12, making her the youngest diving champ of all time. She is also famous for being one of the youngest Olympic diving champions, having earned a gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games when she was just 13 years and 345 days old. Throughout the 1990s, Fu dominated the sport with her repertoire of extremely difficult dives. During the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Fu won her fourth gold medal, joining Americans Pat McCormick and Greg Louganis as the world's only quadruple Olympic-diving champions.
Thomas Robert Daley is an English diver, television personality and YouTube vlogger. He specialises in the 10-metre platform event and is a double World champion in the event; he won the 2009 FINA World Championship in the individual event at the age of 15, before regaining it in 2017. Daley was the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist in the event.

She initially trained at Tsinghua University with controversial diving coach Yu Fen before moving to the national team in 2006. She competed for Team China at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
César Augusto Aquino de Castro is a Brazilian competitive diver from Brasília, Distrito Federal. Castro has represented Brazil in four consecutive Olympics Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens Games, 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Germán Saúl Sánchez Sánchez is a Mexican diver. He is nicknamed "Duva". At the age of 16, he competed in the Men's individual 10m platform at the 2008 Summer Olympics and came in 22nd. He won one gold medal in the 2011 Pan-American Games. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won a silver medal in the synchronized 10m platform with his partner Iván García. In the individual 10m platform, Sánchez came 14th. In 2016, Sánchez took part in his third Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he came 5th in the synchronized 10m platform, again alongside Iván García. Twelve days later, Sánchez won the silver medal in individual 10m platform. and 9th in the semi-final. He became the third Mexican athlete to win an Olympic silver medal in Men's individual 10m platform after Joaquín Capilla (1952) and Álvaro Gaxiola (1968). He is also the only Mexican diver who has won Olympic medals in both individual and synchronized events.

The 2020 FINA Diving World Cup was scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from 21 to 26 April 2020. It was to be the 22nd edition of the biennial diving competition, and the first time this specific FINA event was to be held in Tokyo and Japan. The venue was to be the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, and the final qualifying diving event for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
