The 20th annual World Music Awards was held on 9 November 2008 in Monaco. Awards are given based on worldwide sales figures for that year. The ceremony was hosted by actor Jesse Metcalfe and singer Michelle Williams. [1]

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, on February 8, 2009 honoring the best in music for the recording year beginning October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were the biggest winners of the night, winning five awards including Album of the Year for their critically acclaimed album Raising Sand. Krauss became the sixth female solo artist to have won 5 awards in one night joining Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Beyoncé Knowles, and Amy Winehouse. Lil Wayne received the most nominations with eight.

2008 MTV Video Music Awards Award ceremony

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards took place on September 7, 2008, live from Paramount Pictures Studios, honoring the best music videos from the previous year. Nominations for a majority of the categories were announced on the MTV program FNMTV after being selected through viewer online voting at MTV.com. The remaining, professional categories were chosen by a panel of music industry professionals. Unlike previous editions of the show, MTV announced the winners to the professional categories three days before the ceremony via a press release, rather than on the pre-show or main show. Usually the same video will stay on the number-one spot for a series of weeks but after a certain period it will be retired or honorably discharged from the countdown and be put into the hall of fame. The music video is usually determined various ways such as voting online on MTV.com, the Billboard charts, ratings on the radio and downloads over the internet.

2011 MTV Video Music Awards Award ceremony

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards took place on August 28, at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, honoring the best music videos from the previous year. On July 20, the nominees were announced. Katy Perry received the most nominations this year at ten, followed by Adele, and Kanye West, who were both tied at seven. A Britney Spears tribute was held, consisting of adult and children dancers alike, they wore costumes based on the music videos of Spears. British television director Hamish Hamilton directed the show for television viewing.
