The 2009 AMA National Speedway Championship Series
Over the course of 12 elimination races, 20 heats each rider raced against every other rider once. The riders get placed in a main event according to their earned points. The championship was run over three rounds at the Costa Mesa Speedway in Costa Mesa, California and the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn, California.

Jeffrey Ward is a British-American former professional motocross racer, auto racing driver and off-road racer. He won the AMA Motocross Championship five times and the AMA Supercross Championship twice and the Motocross des Nations seven times. After retiring from motorcycle competition, Ward turned to auto racing, finishing in second place at the Indianapolis 500 and winning a race at the Texas Motor Speedway. He then competed in off-road truck racing and rallycross. Ward was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 and, was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America on 12 August 2006.
Gregory Alan Hancock is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times.
John Walter Milne was an international speedway rider. He became the first American to win a motorcycling world championship when he won the Speedway World Championship in 1937. Milne finished as runner-up in the World Championship in 1938.
Kelly Michael Moran was an American professional speedway rider who rode for a number of British clubs and also represented the United States national speedway team. His younger brother Shawn Moran was also a successful speedway rider.

Costa Mesa Speedway in Costa Mesa, California, US, is a major motorsports venue credited with the renaissance of motorcycle speedway racing in Southern California. The 185 yards long track hosts both Solo and Sidecar speedway.
Eddie Castro, known as 'Fast Eddie', is a Speedway rider who has raced regularly in the AMA National Speedway Championship, finishing fourth in 2002 and sixth in the 2010 competition. Castro made his debut in 1980, and has since competed in several prestigious competitions, including the Jack Milne Cup and the Fair Derby, winning the latter in 2009. He also won the Spring Classic handicap in March 1999.

The United States Speedway National Championship is an annual speedway championship to decide one of the two national champions of the United States. The Championship has always been staged at Costa Mesa Speedway and dates back to 1969. Since 1998 when Costa Mesa promoters split from the AMA, the competition has run completely separately from the AMA National Speedway Championship. It is not affiliated to the FIM.
The 2021 AMA National Speedway Championship Series was staged over two rounds, held at Owego, New York and Auburn, California. Three rounds were initially scheduled, however the first round at Greene, New York was cancelled due to poor track conditions. It was also the first championship since 2019, after the 2020 series was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
