The 2010s saw several notable changes in motorsport.

North America

The United States Grand Prix returns after a four year hiatus. Its new venue is Circuit of the Americas.
The Rolex Sports Car Series and American Le Mans Series merge in 2014 to form the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
The IndyCar event at Watkins Glen International is held on-and-off before being ultimately dropped in 2018.
The IndyCar Series abandons its event at Sonoma Raceway after fifteen years for an event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It is their first event there since 2004.
In 2012 Chevrolet was added as a second engine in the IndyCar Series, accompanying Honda. Lotus was also a supplier but was shortlived. This was the first time in many years that IndyCar had more than one supplier.
The IndyCar Series introduces the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. It is held as a doubleheader with the Indianapolis 500 until 2021 when a second road course event is added.
The SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge completely reformats, with three categories instead of the two which had been the standard for years. The old touring car category becomes GTS and a new TC category based on the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge is created with much better variety, the old one being dominated by three brands for years.
Haas F1 was created as the only current Formula One team headquartered in the United States.
The Dodge Charger replaces the Dodge Avenger as the vehicle of choice for Dodge in NASCAR
The Dodge Viper is discontinued

Europe

The Austrian Grand Prix returns in 2014 after eleven years.^[1]
The French Grand Prix returns in 2018 after ten years. It is held at Circuit Paul Ricard instead of the previous Magny-Cours.^[2]
The Russian Grand Prix debuts. It is held until 2022, when it is canceled indefinitely due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Lotus returns to F1 after about fifteen years. They are quickly purchased by Renault and are defunct after 2015.
Brumos Porsche folds after about fifty years. It is tributed in 2019 by Porsche Racing using similar livery for IMSA's fiftieth anniversary.
Porsche Racing breaks Audi's dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, beginning their own dynasty. It lasts until 2018 when Toyota Gazoo Racing begins their dynasty which has lasted to this date.
Formula One champion Max Verstappen debuted

Asia

The Indian Grand Prix is held for three years.^[3]
The Korean Grand Prix is held for four years.^[4]
The Malaysian Grand Prix is dropped in 2018 after almost twenty years.^[5]
The Acura NSX returns in 2016 after a hiatus of over a decade
The Toyota Supra returns in 2019 after a hiatus of almost twenty years.
The Indy Japan 300 is dropped from the IndyCar Series calendar in 2012. It is the final event outside North America. Due to an earthquake damaging the oval, the final event is held on the motorcycle circuit.^[6]

Central America

The Mexican Grand Prix is revived in 2015 after over twenty years.^[7] It is held until 2019, after which the 2020 event is canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event resumes the following year as the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Middle East

The Turkish Grand Prix is dropped in 2012. It does not return until 2020.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix debuts in 2017.^[8] It is held until 2020, when it is dropped due to COVID. It returns the following year.

Sebring International Raceway is a road course auto racing facility in the southeastern United States, located near Sebring, Florida.

Teodorico Fabi is an Italian former racing driver. He competed in Formula One, IndyCar, and sports car racing. He claimed pole position in his rookie year at the 1983 Indianapolis 500. Teo is the older brother of former Formula One driver Corrado Fabi.

Road Atlanta is a 2.540 mi (4.088 km) road course located just north of Braselton, Georgia, United States. The facility is utilized for a wide variety of events, including professional and amateur sports car and motorcycle races, racing and driving schools, corporate programs and testing for motorsports teams. The track has 12 turns, including the famous "esses" between turns three and five; and Turn 12, a downhill, diving turn. The track is owned by IMSA Holdings, LLC through its subsidiary Road Atlanta, LLC, and is the home to the Petit Le Mans, as well as AMA motorcycle racing, and smaller events throughout the year. Michelin acquired naming rights to the facility in 2018.

The Honda Indy Toronto is an annual Indy Car race, held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Originally known as the Molson Indy Toronto, it was part of the Champ Car World Series from 1986 to 2007. After a one-year hiatus, it has been part of the NTT IndyCar Series schedule since 2009. The race takes place on a 2.874-kilometre (1.786 mi), 11 turn, temporary street circuit through Exhibition Place and on Lake Shore Boulevard. Toronto is classified as an FIA Grade Two circuit.

Jan Heylen is a championship-winning Belgian racing driver, based out of Tampa, Florida.

The Chevrolet Grand Prix is an annual IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race held every July at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The race originated in 1975 and is currently a two hour and forty minute race in order to fit the event into a television-friendly package. Previous editions of the Grand Prix were part of the World Sportscar Championship, the American Le Mans Series and the IMSA GT Championship.

Trenton Estep is an American professional racing driver. Estep grew up racing karts from the age of 4 years old in New Braunfels, Texas. He competed in various karting competitions such as SKUSA Pro Tour, Florida Winter Tour, US Open and Rotax Grand Finals in Portugal. In 2016 he made the transition from karts to open wheel cars. He entered the Formula Tour F1600, Canadian F1600 Super Series and F1600 Championship Series winning two Championships. He also ran in the opening round of the Redbull Global Rallycross Championship in Phoenix Arizona. In 2017 Estep made his transition from open wheel to cars in the North American Porsche GT3 Cup Series, with JDX Racing. Estep finished on podium 11 of 16 races with multiple wins placing 3rd in the Porsche GT3 Cup Championship. In 2018 he returned to the Porsche GT3 Cup series with JDX Racing with renewed sponsorship by Hertz Global along with a new sponsor Byers Porsche of Columbus Ohio. Estep went on to finish on Podium in 14 of 16 races winning the 2018 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Championship. A final honor to end his season was being chosen by Porsche Motorsports to attend the Porsche Junior Programme Shootout in Le Castellet at Circuit Paul Ricard. Estep was only 1 of 11 and the youngest at age 18 of the top Porsche drivers from all over the world under the age of 25 to receive the exclusive invite. At the end of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup North America season Trenton was chosen by Porsche Motorsport North America as a "Porsche Selected Driver" for 2023. Starting in 2019 through present Trenton is a professional driver coach and driver for MDK Motorsports based in Pataskala Ohio.

Motorsports are a popular non-physical sport competed in many countries worldwide, including in Canada. One of the most internationally significant Canadian events is the Montreal Grand Prix, a race for the Formula One World Championship. Ongoing since 1967. Lance Stroll is the only Canadian competing in the series in 2023.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption to motorsport across the world, mirroring its impact across all sports. Across the world and to varying degrees, events and competitions have been cancelled or postponed.

The new millennium saw many changes for motorsport. Not only were there technological developments, but also historic ones like NASCAR's severing of ties with the tobacco industry.
