Maria Sharapova was the defending champion, and she successfully defended her title, defeating Li Na in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 7–6(7–5). She did so after coming back from a set and a double break deficit in the second set, and saving a match point in the third set, in the final.

Marion Bartoli defeated Sabine Lisicki in the final, 6–1, 6–4 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. She won the title without losing a set, or facing a tiebreak in any set. Bartoli became the first French major champion since Amélie Mauresmo at the 2006 Wimbledon Championships. By winning her maiden major title in her 47th appearance, she broke the previous women's record of 45, set by Jana Novotná in 1998, for most appearances in majors before winning a title.

Li Na defeated Dominika Cibulková in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Australian Open. She became the first Asian champion at the tournament and the sixth woman to win the title after being match point down.

Bianca Andreescu defeated Angelique Kerber in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Indian Wells Open. It was her maiden WTA Tour title, and Andreescu became the first wildcard champion in the tournament's history, as well as the youngest champion since Serena Williams in 1999. This marked the second consecutive year where a player won the tournament as her maiden WTA Tour singles title.
