Shooting sports is a collective group of competitive and recreational sporting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in shooting — the art of using various types of ranged firearms, mainly referring to man-portable guns and bows/crossbows.

ISSF shooting events

The International Shooting Sport Federation recognizes several shooting events, some of which have Olympic status. They are divided into four disciplines: rifle, pistol, shotgun and running target.

Dr. Susan "Sue" Marie Nattrass, is a Canadian trap shooter and medical researcher in osteoporosis. She was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Competing at an elite international level from the 1970s through the 2010s, Nattrass has had multiple appearances, in one or both of trap or double trap, at Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Pan American Games. Nattrass is a repeat World Champion and repeat medalist at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Pan American Games. She was the flag bearer for Canada at the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, better known as Imola, is a motor racing circuit in the town of Imola, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Bologna. It is one of the few major international circuits to run in an anti-clockwise direction. The circuit is named after Ferrari's late founder, Enzo Ferrari, and his son, Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari, who died in 1956 at age 24. Before Enzo's death, it was called Autodromo Dino Ferrari. Trap shooting is one of the three major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting. The other disciplines are skeet shooting and sporting clays. They are distinguished roughly as follows, with variations within each group:

The ISSF World Shooting Championships are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships. By this logic, the 2006 competition in Zagreb was called the 49th ISSF World Shooting Championships. These championships, including all ISSF shooting events, are held every four years since 1954. For the shotgun events only, there is an additional World Championship competition in odd-numbered years. These extra competitions are not numbered. In running target, there will be World Championships in Olympic years.

The men's trap competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 14 and 15 at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. There were 35 competitors from 26 nations, with each nation having up to two shooters.

Manavjit Singh Sandhu is an Indian sport shooter who specializes in trap shooting. He is a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee in 2006 and Arjuna Awardee in 1998. He is a 4 time Olympian, having represented India at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics the London 2012 Summer Olympics and the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Shooting at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Mens trap Olympic sport shooting event

The men's trap event at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 9 and 10 at the Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field. There were 35 competitors from 25 nations, with each nation having up to two shooters. The Czech Republic won its second shooting gold in two days through David Kostelecký, shooting a perfect 25 in the final round and establishing an Olympic record of 146 hits total after a 2005 rule change. It was the Czech Republic's first medal in the men's trap. Giovanni Pellielo of Italy repeated as the silver medalist; in addition to his 2000 bronze, this made Pellielo the first man to earn at least three medals in the event; he would go on to win a fourth in 2016. Defending Olympic champion Aleksei Alipov of Russia took bronze this year, making him the fifth man to earn two medals in the trap.

Zuzana Rehák-Štefečeková is a female Slovak sports shooter. She won the silver medal in the Women's Trap event at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics.

Shooting at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Mens trap Olympic sport shooting event

The men's trap event at the 2012 Olympic Games took place on 5 and 6 August 2012 at the Royal Artillery Barracks. There were 34 competitors from 27 nations. The event was won by Giovanni Cernogoraz of Croatia, the nation's first medal in the men's trap. Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy took silver, the third consecutive silver and fourth Games on the podium for Italy. Kuwait, like Croatia, earned its first medal in the men's trap; Fehaid Al-Deehani took bronze.

The European Shooting Championships are the global sport shooting European championships as regards the disciplines of the sport shooting of the rifle and the pistol. Sometimes the competition also includes trap shooting, skeet and running target shooting events, usually organized in special special championships.

Shooting at the 2020 Summer Olympics Shooting events at the 2020 Summer Olympics

Shooting competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were originally scheduled from 25 July to 3 August 2020, due to the postponement of the Summer Olympics to 2021, the rescheduled dates will be on 24 July to 2 August 2021 at the Asaka Shooting Range. Unlike in 2016, the number of shooters competing across fifteen events at these Games has been reduced from 390 to 360, with an equal distribution between men and women. Furthermore, several significant changes were instituted in the Olympic shooting program, including the substitution of three male-only events, with the mixed team competitions.

The men's trap at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 7–8 August 2016 at the National Shooting Center. There were 33 competitors from 24 nations.

2009 IFMAR 1:10 scale Electric Off-Road World Championships was the 13th running of the IFMAR 1:10 Electric Off-Road World Championship for 1:10 radio-controlled electric off-road buggies sanctioned by the International Federation of Model Auto Racing (IFMAR) that ran over two separate classes.

The 2017 World Shotgun Championships were held from August 30 to September 11, 2017 in Moscow, Russia. As in all odd-numbered years, separate ISSF World Shooting Championships is carried out in the Trap, Double Trap and Skeet events.

The 2019 World Shotgun Championships were held from 30 June to 11 July 2019 in Lonato del Garda, Italy. As in all odd-numbered years, separate ISSF World Shooting Championships are held for trap, double trap and skeet events.
