The 2012 ARFU Women's Sevens Championship was the tournaments thirteenth edition and took place on 6 to 7 October 2012, at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune, India. [1] The tournament was a qualifier for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Russia, there were three available spots at stake. Fiji qualified for the World Cup as champions, along with China and Japan who finished second and third respectively. [1] [2]

15 teams competed in the competition, with 14 teams coming from Asia and one from Oceania. Fiji had earned a place at the qualifier by way of finishing third at the 2012 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship in August. [3] [4]

The Asia Rugby Sevens Series is an annual series of regional rugby sevens tournaments run by Asia Rugby featuring national sevens teams. It has been held regularly since 2009 to determine Asia's best men's national team in the sport of rugby sevens.

The Papua New Guinea women's national rugby sevens team represents Papua New Guinea in international women's rugby sevens tournaments. They are regular participants at the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship and Pacific Games.

The qualification process for the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup began on 14 February 2015. Twelve teams qualified for the tournament, which was held in Ireland in 2017.

The Papua New Guinea women's national rugby union team played their first international against Fiji in 2016. They compete annually in the Oceania Rugby Women's Championship, and have not qualified for the Rugby World Cup as yet.

The qualification process for the 2021 Rugby World Cup began on 9 August 2019 with 12 teams qualifying to the tournament which was to be held in New Zealand. The 2021 Rugby World Cup was postponed by one year in March 2021 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The women's tournament for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held in Cape Town, South Africa from 9 to 11 September at the Cape Town Stadium.

The 2012 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship was the second edition of the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship and also doubled as a qualifier for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. It was held from 3–4 August 2012 in Churchill Park, Lautoka, Fiji. Since Australia and New Zealand had already qualified for the World Cup. Fiji as the other highest placing team qualified for the Asia/Oceania final qualifier in Pune, India.

The men's tournament for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held in Cape Town, South Africa from 9 to 11 September at the Cape Town Stadium.

This is the qualifying process for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens with the aim of selecting the women's national rugby sevens teams that will compete in the tournament in Cape Town, South Africa. A total of 47 nations took part in the qualifying process.

The 2012 Asia Pacific Women’s Sevens Championship took place in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 31 August to 1 September 2012. Australia defeated Japan in the Cup final to win the tournament and defending champions, Papua New Guinea, won the bronze final.
