The Men's 50 Backstroke at the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) was swum 17 – 18 December 2010 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In the morning session of 17 December, 76 individuals swam in the Preliminary heats, with the top-16 swimmers advancing to swim again in the Semifinals that evening. The top-8 finishers in the Semifinals then advanced to the Final the next evening.

The swimming portion of the 2011 FINA World Championships was held July 24–31 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. Swimming is one of five aquatic disciplines at the championships.

Evgeny Mikhailovich Rylov is a Russian competitive swimmer and Olympic champion specializing in backstroke events. He won three gold medals at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, and a bronze medal at his senior international debut at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. He also won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, both were in the 200 metre backstroke event. In 2018, at the 2018 World Short Course Championships, he won gold medals in the 200 metre backstroke and 50 metre backstroke. At the 2019 World Championships, he won a gold medal in the 200 metre backstroke, silver medal in the 100 metre backstroke, and silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke. He won the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke and 200 metre backstroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Travis Mahoney is an Australian medley and backstroke swimmer. Winner of two relay medals at the 2012 World Short Course Championships, he is also part of the quartet that broke the world record in the short course mixed 4 × 50 metres freestyle relay. In 2016, he qualified for his first Olympic Games.

Pieter Coetze is a South African swimmer. He is the African record holder in the long course 100 metre backstroke. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke, the silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke, and the bronze medal in the 200 metre backstroke. At the 2022 World Junior Championships he competed in ten events, including winning the gold medal in the 200 metre backstroke, silver medals in the 50 metre backstroke, 100 metre backstroke, and the 4×100 metre medley relay, as well as a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre mixed medley relay.

Lorenzo Mora is a competitive Italian swimmer. He is an Italian record holder in the short course 100 metre backstroke, 200 metre backstroke, and 4×100 metre medley relay. At the 2021 European Short Course Championships he won the silver medal in the 200 metre backstroke in Italian record time and won a gold medal as part of the 4x50 metre medley relay. He won a gold medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay, a silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke, and bronze medals in the 4×50 metre mixed medley relay and 4×50 metre medley relay at the 2021 World Short Course Championships. He won a gold medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay, swimming backstroke in the final, the gold medal in the 200 metre backstroke, the silver medal in the 100 metre backstroke and the bronze medal in the 50 metre backstroke at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.
