The Mongolia national football team represents Mongolia in international football under the control of the Mongolian Football Federation (MFF). Founded in 1959, the federation was inactive between 1961 and 1997 and the men's national team did not feature in any international fixtures during that time. No one will come to Mongolia in December and for us to fly to other countries is very expensive so it’s hard to arrange official matches."

Khaan Khuns - Erchim FC is a professional football club from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia who have been playing in the Mongolian Premier League, which they have won ten times, since its inaugural year in 1996. The Mongolian Football Federation applied to enter the 2012 AFC President's Cup, and was approved by the AFC in November 2011. As winners of the 2012 Super Cup, Erchim were awarded the place in the competition. In 2017 the club qualified for the AFC Cup, becoming the first Mongolian club to do so.

The 2013 Mongolian Premier League also known as Niislel Lig or Capital League is the 46th edition of the tournament. The number of teams reduce to seven due to the withdrawal of Ulaanbaataryn Mazaalaynuud in the 2012 season. It started on 1 May and ended on 31 August 2013. Erchim won the tournament for the eighth time by beating Khangarid 4–1 in penalties. Erchim will also advance to the 2014 AFC President's Cup representing Mongolia.
The 2014 Mongolian Premier League also known as Niislel Lig or Capital League is the 47th edition of the tournament. Ulaanbaataryn Mazaalaynuud returned to the league after withdrawing from competition in the 2012 season, replacing Khasiin Khulguud to keep the number of teams at seven. The season started on 25 June and ended with the championship match on 30 August 2013. The top four teams in the standings advanced to the single elimination playoff stage.

The 2015 Mongolian Premier League also known as the Khurkhree National Top League is the 47th edition of the tournament. Two new teams entered the competition, Deren and Soyombiin Barsuud to increase the number of teams to nine. The season started on 16 May 2015 and was ended on 26 September.

Ganbold Ganbayar is a Mongolian professional footballer who plays for Slovak KFC Komárno, on loan from Hungarian club Puskás Akadémia. He became the first Mongolian ever to sign a professional contract with a top-flight club in Europe when he signed for Puskás Akadémia in August 2018. Ganbayar has been touted as Mongolia's potential first superstar player.
